Hikvision, a core IoT solution provider in the imaging field, is launching an intelligent radar-based fall detection solution that can be installed in nursing facilities to prevent falls for the elderly and provide immediate response.
In recent efforts to respond to fall accidents, various fall detection solutions have been developed, such as alarms that send notifications by pressing a button, but there is a limitation in that it is difficult to respond quickly. To overcome the limitations of existing fall prevention solutions, the installation of radar-based fall detection solutions is increasing. Radar-based solutions have the key advantage compared to existing solutions in that they ensure immediate response through 24-hour detection and alerting capabilities and enable healthcare providers to provide rapid treatment in a way that respects patient privacy.
Hikvision’s intelligent radar-based fall detection solution uses harmless millimeter wave radar to detect the patient’s position, movement speed, and posture, while using a deep learning algorithm to distinguish between sitting and lying postures to improve accuracy. Maximize and minimize false alarms. This saves medical teams time and ensures immediate and efficient action in the event of a fall.
In addition, Hikvision has developed assistive treatment technology that monitors a patient’s medical information in a non-contact and non-intrusive manner through radar. Assisted care radar solutions monitor information about the time a patient spends in bed, breathing and heart rate, and body movements, providing real-time notifications of results and signs of a patient’s health. This supports rapid and effective medical intervention.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that falls are the second leading cause of accidental death worldwide. Elderly people in particular are at high risk for falls, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that more than one in four people over the age of 65 experience a fall each year, and one in five of them. Research results have been published showing serious injuries such as hip fractures and head fractures. In addition, Hikvision explained that once you have experienced a fall accident, the likelihood of experiencing another accident doubles, making prevention and monitoring important.
