Mokibo (CEO Eunhyeong Cho), a touchpad fusion keyboard development company, introduced ‘Fusion Keyboard’ through the YouTube channel of Pangyo Techno Valley, a global convergence R&D hub cluster centered on global IT, BT, CT, and NT.
Mokibo is a company that developed the ‘Fusion Keyboard’, a composite keyboard that has the function of converting the flat surface of a regular mechanical keyboard into a large touchpad. The Fusion Keyboard is a product born from the idea of CEO Cho Eun-hyung, who joined LG Electronics as a software engineer and worked at the patent center for about 11 years with various experiences including global patent development, litigation, licensing, and next-generation device UX research.
The Fusion Keyboard uses a smart mode switching algorithm and motion recognition technology to implement a large touchpad on top of the existing keyboard without a separate touchpad or mouse. Even though it is small in size, it provides a keyboard and a large touchpad, so it is highly usable as a portable keyboard. Additionally, it is noteworthy that fast typing is possible because it maintains the keyboard feel of a mechanical keyboard.
It can be connected to iOS, Android, Windows, Samsung Dex, MacOS, Linux, Smart TV, Oculus Quest 2, etc., and supports Bluetooth 5.1 (up to 10m). Up to 3 devices can be multi-paired, and it has a basic waterproof design. It is also equipped with a high-capacity battery that can be used for up to 60 hours when charged for 2 hours.
Mokibo’s fusion keyboard comes in three colors: red, black, and white, and supports Korean-English keyboard and English keyboard.
When laptop manufacturers produce laptops using the Fusion keyboard module, they can save space on the existing touchpad. As a result, the thickness of the laptop becomes approximately 4.3% thinner and its weight becomes 3.9% lighter. Additionally, the area of the touchpad has been increased by approximately three times, providing convenient mouse control.
It can be used as a smart home controller in the living room and a media controller in self-driving cars, drawing attention to its potential for future development.
The first generation of the Fusion keyboard was released in 2019 and received great response from the market. Afterwards, the second generation was launched in 2020 with greatly improved key feel and touch performance as well as portability, and successfully raised 330 million won on Kickstarter, the world’s largest crowdfunding site. Afterwards, it attracted the attention of many people by successfully raising 270 million won in funding from ZecZec, the largest crowdfunding site in Taiwan, the home of high-end keyboards, and domestic and international crowdfunding alone exceeding 1.1 billion won.
Eunhyeong Cho, CEO of Mokibo, said, “We started Mokibo in Seoul, but we struggled. “Because it was a small company, we moved to Pangyo to work with talented engineers,” he said. “We received help with software and hardware development and domestic and international marketing through support from Pangyo Techno Valley.” In addition, there are many similar companies in Pangyo, making it a friendly place for developers. “So it was also useful in hiring good developers.”
He continued, “We plan to diversify our product line with foldable keyboards, tablet PC keyboards, and mechanical keyboards in the future,” adding, “To expand into B2B business, the module has been completed so that it can be applied to thin laptops. We will enable more people to experience the Fusion Keyboard through business partnerships with existing laptop manufacturers and keyboard manufacturers. “We are currently preparing for technical cooperation by signing non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and business agreements (MOUs) with global laptop manufacturers at home and abroad,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mokibo is scheduled to release the Type Cover Fusion Keyboard for the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad later this year.
