Samyang Corporation, a food and chemical affiliate of Samyang Group, recently participated in ‘HI (Health Ingredients) JAPAN 2022’, an exhibition of health functional raw materials and products held in Tokyo, Japan, and operated a booth to promote specialty materials.
At this exhibition, Samyang Company focused on promoting indigestible maltodextrin, a material that can indicate functionality in general foods. Indigestible maltodextrin, a soluble dietary fiber, is a functional raw material that, when ingested, can help ▲ facilitate bowel movements ▲ suppress the rise in blood sugar levels after a meal ▲ improve neutral lipids in the blood, and can be used in various products such as beverages, confectionery, and bakery products. Currently, Samyang Corporation produces powder and liquid indigestible maltodextrin under the brand name ‘Fiberest’.
‘Allulose’, which specializes in reducing sugars, was also introduced significantly. Allulose, Samyang’s representative specialty material, is a sweet ingredient found in figs and grapes, and has a sweet taste similar to sugar, but has zero calories, so it is called the optimal next-generation sweetener. Samyang Corporation recently built a specialty factory in Ulsan and is producing crystalline allulose that is easy to distribute.
In addition, ‘Kestos’, a type of fructooligosaccharide used as a health functional food ingredient, was introduced. Samyang Corporation is conducting human application tests to get Kestose recognized as a health functional food ingredient.
In Japan, where the exhibition was held, the use of functional materials has been active in the development of various foods such as confectionery, bakery, beverages, and supplementary foods. The general food functionality labeling system was also introduced in 2015, six years before Korea. In particular, indigestible maltodextrin is one of the most used materials in the Japanese functional food market among various functional raw materials.
In order to effectively promote these core specialty materials, Samyang Company displayed products with actual materials such as beverages, processed sugar products, protein bars, and syrups divided into categories along with raw material samples. In addition, to help visitors understand and increase attention, brochures and leaflets along with tasting samples were provided.
Choi Nak-hyeon, CEO of Samyang Food Group, said, “We participated in the exhibition to promote Samyang’s specialty materials to potential customers, and it was a success, with more than 600 people visiting and consulting during the three days of the event.” He added, “We will continue to promote Japanese functional materials in the future.” “We plan to continue participating in related exhibitions and actively participate in global food raw material exhibitions outside of Japan to raise awareness of Samyang’s specialty materials and encourage the development of new products using them,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, following its participation in ‘HI JAPAN 2022’, Samyang Corporation plans to participate in ‘Las Vegas Food Ingredient Expo (Supply Side West, SSW) 2022’ to be held in Las Vegas, USA in November to showcase Samyang’s specialty ingredients to overseas markets. .
