LIG Nex1 signed a business agreement on ‘Integrated Automation Technology for Intelligent Mission Support System for Submarines’ worth 39.6 billion won, hosted by the Defense Technology Promotion Institute.
Through this project, LIG Nex1 is the first in Korea to apply artificial intelligence technology to the main core functions of the combat system, intelligentizing and automating a series of processes such as ‘detection and tracking → identification and risk assessment → armament allocation and tactical operation → engagement and evaluation’. We will research and develop technologies that
If the next-generation submarine is equipped with an AI (artificial intelligence)-based intelligent and automated mission support system, it is expected to greatly contribute to improving the survivability and combat power of submarines that mainly perform solo operations.
In addition, it is expected to effectively relieve fatigue caused by operational complexity based on big data-based status estimation and situation judgment, thereby ensuring combat capabilities.
Meanwhile, LIG Nex1, based on its existing experience and technology in developing submarine weapon systems, is developing optimal infrastructure through industry-academia-research cooperation with specialized companies in each technology field (Cockle), research institutes (Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology), and schools (Korea University, Hanyang University, Sejong University). By building and integrating capabilities in each field, we are pursuing the development of a combat system incorporating the latest artificial intelligence technology suitable for the submarine operational environment.
