Naver announced that it had published a double-digit number of papers at ‘NeurIPS 2022’ (Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems), the world’s most prestigious AI conference.
NeurIPS is the world’s largest machine learning society, and the competition rate is so high that the paper acceptance rate is only about 25%. NeurIPS, now in its 36th year, was held offline in New Orleans, USA from November 28 to December 3, local time, and will be held online until the 9th.
At this NeurIPS, Naver presented a total of 11 papers (8 from Naver Clova, 3 from Naver Labs Europe) and was recognized for its global level AI research achievements. In addition to NeurIPS this year, Naver has proven its top-level AI technology in Asia by publishing double-digit regular papers at the most prestigious academic societies in the machine learning and computer vision fields, such as ICLR, CVPR, and ECCV.
In particular, as ‘multimodal’ generation technology that converts text into images is rapidly developing, it has attracted attention by presenting a generalized indicator that can effectively evaluate the quality of how well the generated image matches the content of the input text.
This technology is highly useful when explaining a given image with text or evaluating robot motion that executes commands based on text. In addition, research was conducted to analyze the principles of data augmentation techniques widely used to improve the performance of image recognition models, and to propose more effective augmentation techniques ‘Hmix’ and ‘Gmix’.
Joint research results through Seoul National University and KAIST AI Research Center were also notable. Research on data augmentation techniques to alleviate bias in AI models (Seoul National University) and research on data generation techniques through learning data compression (KAIST) were introduced, and research in the field of speech synthesis through collaboration with Korea University was also presented. Naver announced the establishment of research centers with Seoul National University and KAIST in May 2021, and has continued close research cooperation in the field of ultra-scale and ultra-creative AI.
