Kakao’s content publishing platform Brunch announced the winners of the ’10th Brunch Book Publishing Project’, including 10 grand prizes and 40 special prizes. This is a contest to publish excellent brunch books as paper books, and it has become a gateway to becoming a star writer, and interest from prospective writers is increasing day by day. In particular, this round was held on the largest scale ever, and the largest number of works ever submitted.
Kakao and Kakao Impact, Kakao’s corporate foundation, carried out the ’10th Brunch Book Publishing Project’ for two months starting last August. For the 10th anniversary, the size and benefits of the award have been significantly increased. In order to provide publishing opportunities to more Brunch writers, the number of award-winning works was expanded to 50, and the total support prize money and special award publication support money was increased to 230 million won.
In addition, Kakao will provide a publishing subsidy of 3.5 million won to each of the special award partner publishers to revitalize the publishing ecosystem. These are small publishers with less than 5 employees, and Kakao plans to connect excellent creators with capable small and medium-sized publishers and support the publication of high-quality works.
In this round, over 8,150 works were submitted, the largest number ever, proving the popularity of the publishing project. This is a 40% increase compared to the 9th session held last year. As the number of submitted works increased, the subject matter of the works also became more diverse. In addition to essays, award-winning works were created in a variety of fields, including liberal arts, infants, children, and youth, and IT.
The grand prize works are △I Live in a Silver Apartment (Like a Fog, Minumsa) △Why on earth does that person do that (Roh Doctor Leo, Gilbut) △The most easily written civil law book in Korea (Soohyeon, Siwon Books) △Eating Mind (Hosa, Munhakdongne) ) △Walking through ugly Seoul (Heo Nam-seol, 21st Century Books) △Design of a new era (Woody, Hanbit Media) △One day I became a team leader (Seo Hyun-jik, Woongjin Knowledge House) △Children’s sentences (Gurujam, Flow Publishing) △I definitely have to go exercise today (Minjin Park, RH Korea) △Where did our family go wrong (Goldilocks, construction company).
Oh Seong-jin, head of Kakao’s story planning department, said, “With the creation of award-winning works in various fields, we have once again confirmed that the range of topics and genres of brunch books is wide.” He added, “We will continue to provide new creative opportunities to brunch writers and continue to make brunch books resonate.” “We will actively provide support so that it can reach readers.”
