Kakao Mobility (CEO Ryu Geung-seon) announced that it will launch a ‘gift ticket’ service for ‘Kakao T Train and Intercity Bus’.

‘Kakao T Train’ and ‘Kakao T Intercity Bus’ not only enable the entire process from reservation, payment, and ticketing, but can also be used by organically connecting with various services within the ‘Kakao T’ platform, including the travel process before and after using the train and bus. It is a MaaS (Mobility as a Service) type service.

The introduction of this ‘ticket gifting’ service not only increased the usability of the platform for ticket buyers, but also further enhanced the convenience of actual ticket users by eliminating inconveniences experienced at the boarding site.

In the case of train tickets, only users could purchase their own tickets through the Kakao T app, but now it is possible to purchase and deliver tickets for friends or family. Users who receive a ticket as a gift can receive a gift notification through KakaoTalk without having to issue a physical train ticket at the station, and then check the ticket using the Kakao T app, which is directly connected.

Besides KORAIL Talk and Let’s KORAIL operated by KORAIL (Korea Railroad), Kakao T is the only platform where you can use the ‘gift train ticket’ function.

For intercity buses, the steps for using tickets purchased on behalf of Kakao T users have been simplified. Previously, boarding was possible only if a physical bus ticket was reissued on-site using the ticket purchase information purchased on behalf of the bus, or the rider had to secure a mobile ticket image via text message. Now you can board the train right away with the ticket you received as a gift within the Kakao T app.

Users who want to gift train and bus tickets can reserve tickets through the Kakao T app and then link their KakaoTalk friend list to select the person who will receive the tickets. If you want to gift it to multiple people, you can use the ‘Submit Gift’ function.

Kakao Mobility, in partnership with KORAIL, is also holding an event starting in June that will provide up to 50% discount coupons to 2,000 customers who have used the Kakao T train ticket gift service. Details such as the event schedule will be announced later through the Kakao T app.

Shin Dong-min, director of Kakao Mobility’s MaaS platform team, said, “This service not only provides functional convenience to users by allowing them to purchase and gift tickets to family and friends, but also eliminates the need for usage methods and boarding procedures that are inevitably different for each mobility service. “It is meaningful that even offline inconveniences can be alleviated to some extent through the Kakao T platform,” he said. “We expect that through Kakao T, non-face-to-face simple reservation services through the platform will be activated in the mobility area as well.” .
