Naver Webtoon will begin recruiting for the first round of the web novel category on June 10th for the ‘2021 Naver Webtoon Largest Contest on Earth (hereinafter referred to as 2021 Largest Contest on Earth)’ with a total prize money of 800 million won.
There are five genres in the web novel category of this contest: ▲Romance ▲Romance Fantasy ▲Fantasy ▲Modern Fantasy ▲Martial Arts, and anyone in Korea can participate.
It is divided into two rounds, and the first round is limited to works in the ▲Romance and ▲Romance Fantasy genres, and applications can be submitted from Thursday, June 10th to Thursday, July 1st. Afterwards, the final winners of the first round will be announced on August 31st (Tuesday) after preliminary examination, main examination, and final examination.
The second round will recruit works in the ▲Fantasy, ▲Modern Fantasy, and Martial Arts genres from September 1 (Wed) to September 21 (Tues), and the final winner will be announced on November 26 (Fri).
In particular, the web novel section applies the ‘open serialization’ method where works are serialized directly on the Naver Web Novel site and selected by readers. The objectivity of the judging was increased as the final winners were selected by reflecting readers’ preferences and voting results in the main review.
The winning works for each genre are ▲Grand Prize (50 million won each, 1 film) ▲Grand Prize (30 million won each, 1 film) ▲Excellence Prize (10 million won each, 3 films) ▲Special Choice (5 million won each, 10 films), A total of 800 million won in prize money will be awarded to a total of 75 works. The final winning work will be given the opportunity to be officially serialized in Naver Web Novel and benefit from the Naver Series ‘Free at 10 o’clock every day’ promotion, and the grand prize winner will be given the privilege of being produced as a webtoon and officially serialized in Naver Webtoon.
The ‘2021 Greatest Contest on Earth’, which marks its 3rd anniversary this year, was planned with the goal of expanding the base of the domestic webtoon and web novel content industry and revitalizing the content creation ecosystem. The plan is to directly discover and nurture excellent web content with diversity and popularity and talented writers, expanding the range of reader choices and providing a stable creative environment for writers.
