TwoBlockAI (CEO Cho Young-hwan), which was selected in the education and evaluation field of the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA)’s ‘2023 non-face-to-face leading service activation project in areas closely related to daily life’, is a company specializing in Korean writing evaluation and learning services. TwoBlock Ai utilizes artificial intelligence natural language processing technology for Korean language learning, enabling objective evaluation of Korean language learning. We are creating AI for Korean language education, including automatic fingerprint generation, automatic evaluation, problem creation, and narrative grading, and have opened ‘Kiwi-T’, an automatic writing correction service for teachers. The official explains that through this, we have presented a world where writing editing, which used to take a long time, can be done in 5 minutes with the help of AI.
In order to review whether the AI writing evaluation and editing service is at a level that can actually be used, a thorough review of the functionality and reliability of the service is necessary. It is necessary to evaluate the possibility of effectively utilizing this service in various domestic and foreign institutions and companies. In addition, evaluation of users’ satisfaction level when using the service in actual situations should be conducted in parallel. In addition, identifying and resolving technical problems is also important. Technical problems may occur during actual use of the developed service, so these problems must be identified in advance and solutions prepared to improve the stability and quality of the service and provide users with a more trustworthy service.
TwoBlock AI developed a writing evaluation AI service using AI-HUB’s essay evaluation database. This service provides a detailed assessment applying six writing elements based on the U.S. CCSS and PARCC achievement standards. It has been certified to have evaluation performance at a level similar to that of a human evaluator, and its strength is that it generates objective and useful evaluation reports. Teachers can edit students’ writing and give evaluation scores through a user-friendly interface. The evaluation results can be easily accessed as a PDF via QR code. This service is already being used in Daekyo Soluni’s reading essay program, and it is known that students can perform at least one writing study per month.
A TwoBlock AI official said, “Our business model provides a variety of services encompassing the private education market, overseas Korean language learning market, large-scale education brands, and public education market. Each academy and training center provides writing evaluation and editing services for 20 students per teacher based on the issuance of 50 reports per month, and AI evaluation sheets are provided to large education brands based on the cost per case. “In addition, we aim to improve the quality of education by providing services that enable editing at a minimum cost to the public education market and supporting regular subjects,” he explained.
He continued, “The development of the AI writing evaluation service began with the need to improve the efficiency and objectivity of student writing evaluation. “The education field faces challenges such as subjective evaluations by teachers, time-consuming evaluation processes, and inconsistent standards across various schools and education systems,” he said. “To solve these problems, we have used AI-HUB’s essay evaluation database. We developed an AI model that provides standardized detailed evaluations according to CCSS and PARCC standards. Additionally, the demands of the growing education market and increasing teacher-to-student ratios have created a need for scalable solutions to support educators. “We developed this service with the goal of providing a more reliable and efficient evaluation method in the domestic and international education field and the Korean language learning market for foreigners,” he added.
In 2022, TwoBlock AI started by applying KEEwi, a writing AI evaluation service, to its online writing learning program. Subsequently, a business agreement was signed with MS education partner Dimore and Chung-Ang University Humanities Contents Research Institute. In 2023, we expanded our service portfolio by launching KEEwi-T, an automatic writing AI evaluation service for teachers. The KEEwi-T service has entered the public education market and is being used in about 40 elementary, middle, and high schools, and has also received GS level 1 certification and an excellence award in the Edutech Excellent Company Contest.
In addition, it received Innobiz certification and was recognized as an innovative small and medium-sized business, and continues to actively engage in activities such as holding an online AI writing contest every month. TwoBlock AI explained that it received certification as an excellent edutech service from the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education and launched the literacy chatbot ‘Kiwi Chat’, and that these series of achievements show that its services are recognized in the edutech field.
An official said of their future plans, “Our main business plan is to expand the scope of use of AI writing assessment tools, link them with various educational courses, and seek to enter the global market by improving services in line with international educational standards.”
Meanwhile, the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA, Director Heo Seong-wook) aims to promote the distribution of non-face-to-face services in areas closely related to people’s daily lives, such as business, daily consumption, education/evaluation, and well-being/health in the pandemic era. We are pursuing a ‘service revitalization project’. Starting in 2021, as the non-face-to-face digital economy accelerates across the economy and society in response to the great digital transformation in the post-corona era, this project will select and support key investment areas focusing on services that urgently require non-face-to-face transformation. TwoBlock AI has been selected in the education and evaluation field.
