[Las Vegas (USA) = AVING News] A gaming company and a car company created a car together? This was realized in real space, not virtual. This is at CES2023, which is taking place in Las Vegas, USA.
While Sony held a press conference at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) on the 4th (local time), a day before the opening of CES 2023, the prototype model of the electric vehicle ‘Afeela’ was unveiled.
Although most companies held conferences at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, Sony presented its new lineup at the booth where the exhibition was held. In particular, as news of the release of an electric car in collaboration with Honda spread, the enthusiasm for coverage became even hotter.
When Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida unveiled AFEELA, Sony-Honda Mobility’s first electric vehicle, cheers and applause poured in from the audience. He said, “We will apply technology related to PlayStation 5’s ‘haptic feedback’ for game enthusiasts sitting in car seats.”
To enable users to enjoy not only games but also movies, Sony Honda Mobility announced plans to enter into a strategic partnership with Qualcomm and apply the latest ‘Snapdragon Digital Chassis’ to Apila.
In the presentation that followed, Yasuhide Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility, appeared and introduced AFEELA. He said, “Sony Honda Mobility’s first electric vehicle, Apila, is scheduled to receive orders starting in the first half of 2025 and be released in the North American market starting in the spring of 2026.”
AFEELA, a joint venture between gaming company Sony and automobile brand Honda, has a ‘Media Bar’ type display applied to the front bumper, allowing drivers to add pictures, colors, etc. of their choice.
In addition, Apila, which was created through an unconventional combination, is also equipped with cutting-edge equipment as standard. A total of 45 sensors, including cameras and radar, are built into the exterior of the vehicle, greatly enhancing object detection and autonomous driving capabilities. Sony’s camera technology played a role in this.
Meanwhile, ‘CES’, the world’s largest IT exhibition, is an exhibition where you can understand the trends of the global home appliance industry at a glance. Hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it is held every January in Las Vegas, USA. AVING News, which has covered CES for 1 consecutive years, has reported CES news around the world every year since 17, and has been selected as the ‘BEST OF CES’, which selects the best innovative products and technologies, and the ‘BEST OF’, which selects domestic innovative companies. ‘MADE IN KOREA’ was held.
