FCI (Fuel Cell Innovations, CEO Taewon Lee) will be exhibiting at the main exhibition hall (LVCC) of ‘CES 2023’, which will be held in Las Vegas, USA for a total of 4 days from January 5th (Thursday) to January 8th (Sunday, local time), 2023. They announced that they will participate in the ‘Seoul Technology Museum’.
FCI (hereinafter referred to as FCI) is a global company that provides innovative energy solutions for a sustainable low-carbon society. It is working with Korea and Saudi Arabia to foster the energy industry to realize Korea’s ‘hydrogen economy’ and Saudi Arabia’s ‘carbon circular economy’. It is a joint venture established by investing technology and capital. We are in the process of providing clean energy solutions based on high-temperature fuel cells such as SOFC and MCFC and water electrolysis (SOE) technology, and are commercializing cost-effective large-scale fuel cell and electrolyzer products by utilizing our core technologies and advanced system engineering technology. I’m doing it.

FCI’s fuel cell is an optimized, high-efficiency micro combined heat and power generation system that provides a fuel cell power generation system that supplies highly efficient power and heat to homes, businesses, public buildings, smart farms, etc. The currently commercially available product is RevGEN 1.5 with a capacity of 1.5 kW, which can be installed in homes and buildings. It has a power generation efficiency of about 55% and a comprehensive system efficiency combined with heat recovery efficiency of over 95%, providing the highest efficiency in Korea. This is the explanation of the official. In addition, it is possible to vary the power generation output and heat supply according to demand, and it is also possible to provide specialized products for hybrid power generation with other power sources, so it can be widely used in the domestic and overseas building fuel cell market.
The application and use of this clean system in the city center was created through 3D modeling and video, which will be broadcast at the exhibition. The FCI fuel cell system was installed in the city center to produce and supply electricity and heat. In addition, the concept of a virtual power plant (VPP) within the city center was applied and expressed. Through a virtual power plant, energy independence in the city can be realized by integrated operation of fuel cells installed in the city and efficiently producing and consuming the generated electricity within the district. In addition, it made it possible to generate additional revenue by selling surplus power to other districts, creating a society where reasonable coexistence can occur. Through this video production, we aim to more easily convey the fuel exhibition system to visitors and indirectly provide an experience of a clean future city.
An FCI official said, “Our company was established as a fuel cell research company in 2018, and set the goal of creating a global business based on the fuel cell and hydrogen industries from the beginning of the business. In particular, keeping in mind that Saudi Arabia’s carbon cycle economy policy matches well with Korea’s carbon neutralization and hydrogen economy policy, we wanted to promote a project that is consistent with the policies of both countries.”
In addition, “We are developing our business centered on the fuel cell field, which will play a key role as a future eco-friendly energy source. In particular, we are focusing on developing the SOFC field, which has the highest power generation efficiency and excellent technological growth among various fuel cell types. Our company was founded by technical personnel with a long period of experience in the fuel cell field, including SOFC, and holds many related technology patents. In addition, we plan to secure a number of partners in Korea and the Middle East who want to expand their business using eco-friendly energy sources, and work with them to develop customized products tailored to the environment of the target region.”
FCI’s product sales performance is expected to begin in earnest from 2023, and overseas, a 150MW conditional purchase contract has been signed with Taqnia Energy in Saudi Arabia. In Korea, we have secured letters of intent to purchase a total of 363 MW, including 40 MW each for S-OIL and Seosan and Okcheon fuel cell power plants.
Future plans were also announced. An official said, “FCI is continuing research and development to expand its commercial product lineup. 45Kw and 240Kw large-scale fuel cell (SOFC) products that can be used for medium-to-large buildings, data centers, and power generation are scheduled to be released in 2024. “In preparation for the future increase in demand for eco-friendly ships, we are also pursuing the development of a system that can use our products as ship power.”
He continued, “As the demand for eco-friendly hydrogen is expected to increase rapidly in the future, we are also pursuing the development of water electrolysis facility technology that can produce blue hydrogen/green hydrogen. “Starting in 2023, we plan to expand our business scope beyond Korea to the Middle East, the United States, and Europe, and work with local partners to develop customized products that can supply our systems locally.”
Meanwhile, ‘CES’, the world’s largest IT exhibition, is an exhibition where you can understand the trends of the global home appliance industry at a glance. Hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it is held every January in Las Vegas, USA. AVING News, which has covered CES for 1 consecutive years, has reported CES news around the world every year since 17, and has been selected as the ‘BEST OF CES’, which selects the best innovative products and technologies, and the ‘BEST OF’, which selects domestic innovative companies. ‘MADE IN KOREA’ was held. In addition, CES on-site issues were vividly conveyed through ‘AVING LIVE’.
The Seoul Technology Museum is comprised of a Theme Zone that embodies future vision and experiential elements, and a Tech Zone that displays the innovative technologies of collaborating large corporations and startups. The Seoul Business Agency (SBA) will showcase innovative technologies in the ‘Mobility and ESG’ field at the Seoul Technology Center through open innovation in conjunction with large corporations, and seven startups with innovative technologies in related fields will participate.
