The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 26th that it opened the ‘Quantum Industry Ecosystem Support Center’ at the Pangyo Enterprise Support Hub.

It was announced on the 26th that a total of 81.4 billion won of financial resources will be invested this year to develop core technologies related to quantum communication, train human resources, and commercialize technology. This is an increase of nearly 70% compared to last year (KRW 48.8 billion).

Quantum technology is a technology that combines the quantum mechanical properties of the microscopic world of atoms or electrons into the information and communications field to enable ultra-high-speed calculations. It is a future core technology that will take a step forward from existing information and communications and turn the industrial ecosystem upside down. It’s attracting attention.

Our government announced its quantum technology research and development investment strategy in April last year and decided to pursue research and development projects that will lead future quantum technology, such as the development of high-tech industry-linked quantum sensors and the development of a 50-qubit Korean quantum computer. Also, at the Korea-US summit in May of this year, discussions were held on ways to cooperate with KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) and the US Argonne National Laboratory.

In addition, on this day, the Pangyo Corporate Support Hub in Gyeonggi-do opened the ‘Quantum Industry Ecosystem Support Center’ to create a virtuous cycle between quantum technology and industry. The center supports the commercialization of core technologies and supporting technologies, fosters high-quality doctoral-level human resources in connection with domestic universities, and establishes a database to secure the supply chain of materials, parts, and equipment. Minister of Science and ICT Lim Hye-sook said, “There may be tough challenges, but quantum technology is the path we must take,” and emphasized, “If industry, academia, and research institutes join forces, we can easily catch up with leading countries and lead the future quantum era.” She continued, “With the goal of becoming a quantum technology powerhouse, the government will cooperate with industry, academia, and research institutes to provide full support for the challenging growth of quantum technology and the growth of the industrial ecosystem.”

Meanwhile, at the opening ceremony, not only academics and researchers who are pursuing the development of quantum technology, but also industry officials such as Samsung Electronics (Korea Advanced Institute of Technology), LG Electronics, POSCO, and the three telecommunications companies who are seeking industrial use of quantum technology attended to share the achievements so far. and discussed ways to cooperate with industry, academia, and research institutes. NIA, ETRI, KIST, National Institute of Standards and Technology officials, Future Quantum Convergence Forum Chairman Kim Jae-wan, quantum field experts from Korea University, Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Chungnam National University, and KAIST, Boryung Pharmaceutical, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Soonchunhyang University Hospital, Woori Net, three telecommunication companies, POSCO, and Hanwha Systems. , officials from Hyundai Motor Company, LG Electronics, and LIG Nex1 attended.
