Naver D2SF (D2 Startup Factory) made a new investment in 3D modeling technology startup ‘Rebuilder AI (CEO Kim Jeong-hyun)’. Rebuilder AI quickly succeeded in attracting its first institutional investment since its establishment in December of last year, and this investment was led by Naver D2SF and jointly participated by KB Investment.
Rebuilder AI has developed 3D modeling technology that converts objects or spaces taken with a smartphone camera into a high-quality 3D model in about 3 minutes. It is a technology that allows you to create 3D models simply and quickly using only a smartphone without professional equipment, and its feature is that creators can freely transform and edit automatically converted 3D models. For objects that transmit or reflect light well, 3D modeling was difficult with existing technologies, but Rebuilder AI succeeded in creating high-quality 3D models.
Currently, Rebuilder AI is preparing for business with AR commerce and virtual showrooms as its primary targets. The main customers are SMEs and brands preparing for AR commerce, and creators who want to create 3D goods suitable for the metaverse, and they plan to carry out collaborative projects in the first half of the year. For individual users, ‘VRIN’, a mobile app that allows conversion and editing of 3D models, is also scheduled to be released within the first half of the year.
Rebuilder AI is a team with both 3D technology and business capabilities. In particular, the co-founders, including CEO Kim Jeong-hyun, used their past startup experience as a stepping stone and successfully completed everything from solution development right after founding to the first institutional investment with their quick execution ability.
Yang Sang-hwan, leader of Naver D2SF, said, “Until now, 3D modeling was the domain of experts, but with the rise of the metaverse, 3D authoring tools that anyone can easily use have become important,” adding, “Despite its early days, Rebuilder AI has excellent 3D modeling and post-production capabilities. “As a team with processing technology, we expect to grow into a company that will enrich the Metaverse content ecosystem in the future.” He also added, “We will pursue cooperation with Naver in various ways to provide users with a new level of 3D experience.”
Meanwhile, Naver D2SF continues to actively invest in technology startups in the metaverse field. Last year, D2SF invested 24% of the total number of investments in metaverse technology startups, and in particular, investments in startups developing metaverse content authoring solutions such as 3D, VR (virtual reality), and AR (augmented reality) were prominent. . Representative investment examples include ▲’N.Light’, which developed a design studio based on its own 3D engine, ▲’Virtual Flow’, which is developing a 3D content production solution based on Unreal Engine, and ▲which is developing an animation automation solution based on pose extraction technology. There is one ‘flask’, etc.
