Morpic Co., Ltd., an incubator of the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, announced on the 3rd that it will provide core technology to Germany’s Solectrix.
Morpic is a metaverse startup that has ‘light field 3D display technology’ that allows you to view three-dimensional images without wearing a VR (virtual reality) device or 3D glasses. Following the recent selection of related technology suppliers such as Samsung Electronics and LG U+, investment was also attracted from Samsung Electronics and Samsung Venture Investment.
Solectrix, which will receive Morpic’s technology this time, is a German company that provides a digital transformation solution that converts analog optical microscopes into digital microscope systems. In order to replicate the ‘binocular parallax’ that can be felt in an analog microscope on a digital screen, Morpic’s light field 3D technology was adopted and applied to Solectrix’s ‘sinaSCOPE’ lineup.
Binocular parallax refers to the parallax between the two eyes, in which slightly different images are observed when the left and right eyes are in different positions and look at the same object. It plays a role in providing accurate perception of three-dimensionality and depth. Morphic’s light field 3D technology implements this principle in a flat display.
In addition to light field 3D technology, Morpic plans to provide a customized total solution optimized for customer needs by combining various technologies, software algorithms that provide a consistent three-dimensional effect in any location, and optical technology that shows clear, high-resolution three-dimensional images without afterimages.
A Morphic official said, “Soletrix’s primary goal, occupying 1% of the German microscope domestic market, is a business that will generate more than KRW 15 billion in annual sales alone for Morphic.” He added, “Starting with entry into Germany, we will continue to support the love of microscopy digital transformation customers in the U.S. and the U.K. “We are receiving calls,” he said, praising the prospects for the business.
Meanwhile, Morpic was spun off from Samsung Electronics in 2015, and was selected for the 2020 Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Promotion Package Jungle Program and is receiving specialized support, including commercialization support and mentoring, from the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center, the host organization.
