Krafton Co., Ltd. begins developing a new experience game based on the intellectual property rights (IP) of author Lee Young-do’s fantasy novel ‘The Bird Who Drinks Tears’.
Krafton opened the teasing site for the new game project ‘UNANNOUNCED PROJECT (unannounced project)’ based on the fantasy novel ‘The Bird Who Drinks Tears’ on the 5th. This site was created to disclose the intention and direction of game production and to provide a view of the world at a glance through the original story and visual artwork of the characters.
The Language Announced project, which was first revealed on the 5th, was designed to recreate the unique fantasy world view, new species, and beautiful and tragic narrative of ‘The Bird Who Drinks Tears’ into a game. The goal is to raise awareness of the IP and impress users around the world by visualizing and gamifying the original work, which may still be unfamiliar to overseas users, with high quality.
Some images visualized through visual R&D over the past two years have been released for the first time through the teasing site. You can see the concrete images of the characters that users have imagined through the novel, including the main characters of the Naga/Goblin/Recon/Human race, the rescue team, and Duo-Oksini. Krafton has been working on visualizing the original work as the first step in growing ‘The Bird Who Drinks Tears’ into a global franchise IP. Iain McCaig, a renowned concept artist who participated in the initial character visualization of various blockbuster films such as Star Wars and The Avengers, is participating in the development of visual technology.
Recruitment of new development personnel is also underway. We plan to constantly recruit global talent who are interested in diverse creative experiences and can lead game development and overall business growth. Recruitment-related details can be found through the personnel recruitment menu (JOIN US) on the teasing site.
Meanwhile, ‘The Bird Who Drinks Tears’ is a novel written by Lee Young-do, a master of Korean fantasy novels, and has been consistently loved for 20 years. As a Korean-style fantasy novel, it features a unique setting and characters based on East Asian mythology. The story begins when the four chosen races, humans, recon, goblins, and naga, become entangled through an incident.
Detailed information about the original story and visual artwork of ‘The Bird Who Drinks Tears’ and the new game project ‘UNANNOUNCED PROJECT (unannounced project)’ based on it can be found on the teasing site.
