Tunip, a natural language processing-based artificial intelligence (AI) startup, announced that it will launch an open beta service for its AI-based chatbot ‘BLOONY’. Tunip recently attracted attention by introducing a natural language processing-based API that targets users’ needs, such as N-line poetry and an ethicality judgment model.

Blueny, introduced by Tunip, is a chatbot with the concept of a friend who likes to travel, and is a cloud character that can travel anywhere in the world. It is an English chatbot developed based on Open AI’s language model, GPT-3, and provides everything from light conversations to in-depth information on travel topics, including overseas attractions. Additionally, Facebook Messenger allows natural and interesting conversations as if talking to a real person, regardless of time.

Participants in the closed beta test (CBT), which was conducted for about 6 months in the first half of last year, expressed great response to Bluney’s conversation and empathy skills, saying, “It was like talking to my family,” and “I liked the rich conversation content.” Some users expressed satisfaction that it was useful for practicing English as they were able to chat in English using familiar topics.

Recently, AI chatbots have been attracting attention as a new means of social interaction. Naver developed ‘Aru’, a character chatbot that combines avatar technology with the giant AI ‘Hyperclova’, and conducted an in-house beta test last June. KT has announced that it will commercialize super-large AI within the year and develop AI that understands and sympathizes with users.

Tunip CEO Park Gyu-byeong said, “We put a lot of effort into creating a new character called ‘Blueny,’ a cloud floating around the world, and equipping it with conversational skills to naturally communicate with users accordingly.” He added, “We plan to enhance Blueny’s conversational skills in the future. “While focusing on this, we also plan to introduce several other character chatbots soon.”

Meanwhile, Tunip is a natural language processing (NLP) startup co-founded by former members of Kakao Brain, and is developing its own advanced AI technology. In recognition of its AI technology development capabilities, it received a ‘T-4 rating’ as an excellent technology company from Nice D&B, a technology credit rating agency, last year.
