Kakao’s content publishing platform Brunch announced that it will be carrying out the ’10th Brunch Book Publishing Project’. In celebration of the 10th anniversary, the benefits and scale of the award will be greatly expanded to provide publishing opportunities to more brunch authors, and a variety of works will be published as paper books.
The Brunch Book Publishing Project is a paper book publishing contest conducted by Kakao Brunch since 2015. So far, a total of 36,000 entries have been received and 188 books have been published as paper books. With the creation of bestsellers such as <Here Comes the Born in 1990>, <The Sorrows of Young ADHD>, and <A Small, Unique Misfortune>, it has become a gateway for new and star writers.
Kakao is carrying out this project on the largest scale ever. The intention is to help more writers connect with the world by publishing their works in paper books. The prize money supported by Kakao’s corporate foundation, Kakao Impact, was increased from 50 million won to 90 million won.
Additionally, the number of award-winning works was expanded to 50. Domestic publishers are in charge of judging and select 10 grand prize works and 40 special awards. Korea’s leading publishers, 21st Century Books, Gilbut, Munhakdongne, Minumsa, Sigongsa, Siwon Books, RH Korea, Woongjin Knowledge House, Hanbit Media, and Flow Publishing, each select the target works and assist with publication. 40 publishers selected by the Korea Publishing Culture Industry Promotion Agency will also support special award selection and publication.
A Kakao Brunch official said, “Thanks to Brunch writers who believe in the power of good writing, the Brunch Book publishing project was able to reach its 10th anniversary,” adding, “We are publishing as publishers from various fields participate and provide publishing opportunities for both the grand prize and special award works.” “We expect many applications from aspiring writers who dream of becoming artists.”
Meanwhile, the application period for the 10th Brunch Book Publishing Project is until October 23rd. Any brunch writer can participate. All they have to do is write at least 10 to 30 articles and apply for a brunch book. The winning work will be announced in December and will be published as a book starting in July of next year.
