Kakao Entertainment has completed the time-lag upload of all lectures of the free ‘Online Creation Academy’ of the ‘Kakao Creation Foundation’, established to support domestic cultural content creators.
Kakao Creation Foundation is a foundation under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism established by Kakao Entertainment to build a healthy ecosystem with creators. Kakao Entertainment plans to contribute at least KRW 10 billion over the next five years to operate the foundation’s business, at an annual level of KRW 2 billion, and starting with the ‘Online Creation Academy’, it will support projects to support creative activities for creators, support projects for aspiring creators, campaigns and public service projects, etc. We plan to expand it in various ways.
The ‘Online Creation Academy’, which opened on September 5, is an education program designed to enable established creators to receive practical help throughout the creative process, including how to create webtoons and web novels for prospective creators, as well as legal common sense and mind and health management methods. It’s a program. Anyone can take the course for free without restrictions through the Kakao Creation Foundation website, and can use it by downloading the mobile app on a PC or through the website.
The lecture consisted of a total of 82 sessions in 5 categories: webtoons, web novels, law, health, and psychology. In the webtoon and web novel categories, about 10 instructors consisting of current writers and comics critics included detailed points in their lectures that can help you build the basics of creation, such as work tools, writing storyboards, how to discover materials, and finding angles for each situation. In addition to basic lectures, it also provides the most frequently asked questions and answers while working as a writer, as well as practical tips derived from the experiences of current writers.
Above all, the ‘Online Creation Academy’ is unique in that experts in each field, including lawyers and medical specialists, provide legal, health, and psychological lectures specialized for content creators. This is a training course that was difficult to access at existing creative academies, and it attracts attention in that it can be helpful not only to prospective creators but also to established creators who are working as solo freelancers and find it burdensome to receive professional help.
In the legal lecture category, legal, tax, and labor education were provided as detailed items. It contains detailed explanations to help creators deal with various related situations that they may encounter in practice, such as provisions to keep in mind when writing a contract, basic concepts of copyright, and how to receive relief in case of copyright infringement on a work, as well as labor laws and freelance business income tax treatment. In psychology lectures given by current writers and psychiatrists, you can learn how to manage your mind flexibly to deal with malicious comments or stress caused by work. In the health field, a rehabilitation medicine specialist provides information on how to care for the spine, back, and neck for creators who have to sit and work for long periods of time.
The ‘Online Creation Academy’ also included a message video for creators delivered by writers Taeho Yoon and writer Jang Jan (Chairman Seong In-gyu of the Korea Creative Story Writers Association). Writer Taeho Yoon said, “I think it would be of very practical help to creators if they could receive support for creative work, contracts, law, and management of mental stress. “I hope that the Online Creation Academy can be a great opportunity and a new start for many people,” he said.
Author Dan Dam said, “As web content has developed, a new path and a good environment have been created for creators who were at the crossroads of life and death in the dark times of the market just 10 years ago. “I hope that many successful new writers will be created through online creation academy education and contribute to the development of web content in our country,” he said. “As a current writer, I feel grateful for the establishment of the Kakao Creation Foundation.”
Meanwhile, the Kakao Creation Foundation’s ‘Online Creation Academy’ plans to continue to open additional lectures, including in-depth training courses in the webtoon and web novel categories, next year as well this year.
