Kakao’s impact commerce ‘Kakao Makers’ announced that it donated 1,000 upcycling cardigans for vulnerable seniors to the Hope Pebble Foundation through the ‘Upcycling’ project. This is the second time, following the donation of 20,000 pairs of upcycled socks to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation last October.

The upcycling project is a new type of eco-friendly activity that regenerates used items into new products and uses them for good purposes. Beyond recycling discarded resources, you can protect the environment and donate at the same time by creating products with new uses through additional processes such as adding new designs.

Since recruiting participants for this second project in June, the process of collecting and sorting used sweaters, turning them into yarn, and producing them has been ongoing for about six months. About 1,000 users donated 7,000 used sweaters. Kakao Makers made a total of 1,000 upcycled cardigans using yarn and donated them to the Hope Pebble Foundation.

It will be delivered to three senior welfare centers to help vulnerable seniors spend a warm winter. In addition, we plan to produce a ‘sweater vest kit’ using upcycled yarn and donate all proceeds from sales through Kakao Makers to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.

Meanwhile, in the process of upcycling, the upcycling social enterprise ‘High Cycle’ and ‘Yeongdeungpo Senior Club’ participated in the selection and classification of sweaters, providing new jobs for 12 seniors.

Kakao Makers is currently carrying out the third project in which about 3,000 individual participants and 13 participating teams recycle old T-shirts and shirts into socks and donate the proceeds from the sales of these products.

Jeon Seong-chan, head of the Kakao Makers Creator team, said, “With the warm participation and interest of about 1,000 people, we were able to achieve the goal of the second project and convey warmth to the elderly in need.” He added, “Kakao Makers will continue to make valuable changes to the environment and society.” “We will strive to present activities that can bring about .”
