Naver Co., Ltd. MY Place announced on the 21st that it will open the ‘MY Place Year-End Closing’ page, which introduces updates made this year, service performance, and the various review cultures established at MY Place.
MY Place has carried out six large-scale updates this year. The update was conducted to reflect the user trend of producing reviews as ‘local content’ such as visit records and consuming them as if browsing SNS feeds.
First, Naver introduced the ‘Profile’ function to MY Place last March, and later in May, it also provided a function to collect reviews of users you ‘follow’. Also, in July, features were added to emphasize the user’s identity, such as allowing users to receive notifications about the number of views of their reviews and theme list.
The review writing and search process has also been improved. The ‘Review Mission Program’, which was updated last November, allowed users to enjoy the fun of writing reviews by performing various missions, and in December, it was linked to Naver Financial’s ‘My Asset’ service, allowing users to make card payments. Visits can also be verified and reviewed using the history. In addition, a review keyword filter is introduced in Naver search results, providing a new search experience that allows users to check local information focusing on the ‘characteristics’ of a place.
This year, 8.4 million users were active on MY Place by writing reviews. In particular, out of a total of 500 million reviews accumulated since the launch of the service in 2019, approximately 100 million reviews were created in the past five months, confirming that review content is rapidly becoming active in the Naver ecosystem.
As user interest in review content has increased, the number of MY Place reviewers has exceeded 101 million this year, and through their reviews, 150 million keyword reviews have been collected in about 2 million places so far. Keyword review is a system that reviews a place by selecting short keywords that contain the characteristics of the place, such as ‘good to go on a special day’ or ‘good to eat alone’. A total of 360 keywords are used to describe the various personalities of the place.
As MY Place continues its attempts to become a ‘local content’ space in 2022, the ways in which users and SMEs utilize reviews have also diversified. In the ‘Award’ section of the year-end settlement page, users who posted sincere and unique reviews this year and local SMEs that consistently communicate with customers through reviews are selected and awarded, and their content is collected and presented in one place.
