Kakao launched ‘mm’ by paying attention to the non-face-to-face conversation needs of users, which continue to increase due to the impact of COVID-19, and the growth potential of the audio platform, which has become a major trend in the global market.
We expect to be able to provide users with a new experience by expanding our experience and expertise in leading a new paradigm in communication by operating the mobile communication platform ‘KakaoTalk’ for the past 10 years to a voice-based platform.
‘mm’ can be downloaded and used through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Anyone can easily sign up using a Kakao account, and can quickly and easily open a chat room and participate anytime, anywhere. In particular, it is expected to be a unique space with a variety of uses for the MZ generation, who are accustomed to freely communicating and expressing themselves based on individual tastes and interests.
For example, you can share similar hobbies, activities, and lifestyles, have light discussions about specific topics, and share various small daily stories such as dating or marriage. It is also possible to exchange useful knowledge, information, and know-how, or to provide coaching, consultation, and Q&A through experts.
In addition, by taking advantage of its nature as an audio platform, it can be used as a space to enjoy and listen to artists’ live music together in the form of an audio concert, or to have regular conversations using specific times such as commuting time or before going to bed.

How to use is simple. After running the app, press the ‘+’ button at the bottom of the center tab, enter the room title and topic, and then press ‘Create Room’ to create a chat room. Additionally, users can participate in ongoing conversations by clicking on the chat room list that is displayed according to the topic set according to the user’s interests. You can also search for chat rooms using the search button at the top.
You can communicate in real time in a variety of ways, including voice. Mutual reactions such as empathy and applause between operators and participants are possible using emojis that can express status or emotions during a conversation.
You can also use KakaoTalk open chat. You can link to an open chat room by entering the link to the open chat room through the notification settings menu in the chat room you created, or you can open a chat room with chat room participants by pressing the ‘Create open chat’ button. By using voice communication-centered chat room operation and open chat simultaneously, communication can be further supplemented, and it can also be used as an additional element in operating a chat room for a specific purpose, such as Q&A.
