    The ‘2021 Dronebot and Artificial Intelligence Combat Development Conference’, hosted by Gyeonggi Province and the Army and hosted by the Gyeonggi Province Economic and Science Promotion Agency (hereinafter referred to as Gyeonggiwon) and the Army Education Agency, was held at the International Conference Hall of the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center for two days from the 7th to the 8th. .

    This conference was held as a venue for cooperation to advance the Army’s transformation into an ‘advanced science and technology force.’ We introduced the plans and latest trends of public and private experts to utilize dronebot and artificial intelligence-related technologies to enhance army power.

    On the first day, a business agreement and an opening ceremony were held for cooperation in the field of dronebots and artificial intelligence between Gyeonggi Province and the Army. At the opening ceremony, KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung gave a keynote lecture on the topic of ‘The Army’s Role in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.’ 

    In the two sessions held after the opening ceremony, topic presentations and discussions were held by military, industry, academia, and research officials on ‘development direction of dronebot combat system’ and ‘plan for standardization and development of manned and unmanned complex combat system’.

    On the second day, the 8th, a session related to defense AI technology trends was held. Topics such as ‘Development of global multi-object tracking and situation prediction technology through large-scale real-time video analysis’ and ‘Status of development of Army artificial intelligence capabilities’ were covered.

    Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province and the Army have established a cooperative relationship to utilize dronebots and artificial intelligence (AI) for the innovation growth of businesses in the province and the development of Army science and technology.

    Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myeong said, “The most important thing in running a country is protecting the national community from attacks such as war, disaster, disease, and terrorism, so national defense is the top priority.” “In the end, I think it is about upgrading weapon systems and equipment,” he said. He continued, “In that respect, this agreement is an excellent opportunity that will greatly help strengthen the military’s security capabilities and further contribute to the development of civilian technology.” He said, “I have long thought that it would be good to improve the military system in a way that helps enlisted soldiers develop their individual capabilities and chart future career paths, rather than simply wasting time and sacrificing their time. “I hope that (the agreement) will serve as an opportunity to strengthen our military’s smart military through the advancement of its weapons systems and provide new opportunities to young people serving,” he added.
