Nexon announced that it will strengthen its position as a game developer by developing seven new games and creating more than 10 large-scale intellectual property rights (IPs) that can be used in the global market in the future. To this end, they also announced plans to hire more than 1,000 new people after the second half of this year.
At the ‘Nexon New Project: Media Showcase’ held online on the 5th, Nexon CEO Lee Jeong-heon said, “People are the most important thing in everything,” and added, “We plan to hire more than 1,000 people by next year to develop IP that works globally.” . He continued, “We plan to develop and foster more than 10 new super IPs that will take responsibility for Nexon in the future and focus on continuous research and bold investments.”
Nexon also unveiled a new project under development. Nexon is a ‘prolific’ game company that has released more than 10 games a year. However, since 2019, as development of large games has been halted one after another, the keynote has changed to ‘selection and focus.’ Last year, they released four games, and so far this year, there are no new games. On this day, Nexon unveiled seven core games, including ‘Project Magnum’, ‘Project Overkill’, and ‘Mabinogi Mobile’. Although it is a gaming company, it also plans to introduce content that goes beyond the boundaries of gaming. ‘Project MOD’ is a sandbox-type content, like Roblox, where users create and share various content. Nexon plans to enable content production using the popular game ‘Maple Story’ IP.
CEO Lee Jeong-heon said, “When I saw a three-year-old child playing with friends on the Zoom video conference system, I thought that although it was a tool for us, it could be a game in itself for children.” He added, “We are looking at the IP broadly rather than limiting it to games.” explained. He added, “When looking at the entire world, a lot of innovation and new entertainment content is being created,” adding, “If we only focus on games, we could be left behind.”
