Kakao Enterprise is strengthening its AI research capabilities and talent development program .
Kakao Enterprise ( CEO Baek Sang-yeop ) announced that as of August 2021 , a total of 16 AI papers have been registered in a number of prestigious global academic societies . Following a total of 13 papers accepted last year , this year’s AI research achievements are being recognized by listing more papers in just half a year than all of last year .
Recently, in August , Kakao Enterprise used in-domain samples at ‘ACL-IJCNLP’, a global top academic society in the field of natural language processing, to automatically generate out-of-domain samples using a natural language attack method to improve the detection ability of classification models. published a paper on the content .
In July, a paper was registered at ‘ICML’, a global machine learning society . This proposes an ‘ end-to -end’ model that overcomes the limitations of the existing speech synthesis model with a two-stage structure and enables more efficient, high-quality speech synthesis .
Last June , a paper was submitted to ‘ICASSP’, the world’s highest-level academic conference in the field of acoustic / voice signal processing . This is a study on learning information from large-scale text corpora ( language data that collects texts in a computer-readable form for language research ) without changing the model structure or using a separate external language model .
Also, in March, a paper jointly researched with Sungkyunkwan University was published in ‘Computational Linguistics’, an academic journal in the field of computational linguistics and NLP . This study deals with converting a cross-domain DB from natural language to SQL ( a programming language that connects users and relational databases ) using a slot-filling method . In addition, papers proving high technological prowess have been accepted in various fields covering speech , natural language processing , and computer vision, including two listed at the world’s highest-level AI academic society ‘AAAI’ in February .
He stood out not only in papers but also in AI- related competitions . Last June , it participated in the neural architecture search (NAS) competition of CVPR 2021 , a computer vision society , and came in third place by proposing a NAS algorithm that can work well with datasets based on autoML ( automated machine learning ) know-how .
In order to continue these AI research achievements , Kakao Enterprise recognizes the importance of securing talent and is preparing talent development and various industry-academia cooperation programs .
First, we are conducting a ‘ Research Membership ‘ program that conducts joint research and collaboration with excellent AI talents , including bachelor ‘s / master’s / doctoral degrees . We provide Kakao Enterprise’s development infrastructure and cooperate with each other to enable flexible collaboration regardless of employment contract , time , or location .
Collaborative research with academia will also be further promoted . Kakao Enterprise has been conducting joint research with KAIST ( Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology ) in the field of machine learning and computer vision since March of this year , and AI- based combinatorial optimization with UNIST ( Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology ) since July . Kakao Enterprise’s voice processing team has been conducting industry-academia cooperation with Seoul National University since September last year, conducting joint research on the topic of ‘ speech synthesis language processing unit and voice DB construction ‘ in the field of voice synthesis .
In addition, we actively support the development environment in the field of AI research by linking the postdoc ( postdoctor , postdoctoral researcher ) support program for doctoral degree graduates, which opened in September last year , and the research internship and research support scholarship system that supports full tuition and a portion of research expenses. The plan is to do so .
