Naver announced on the 23rd that it will launch the ‘Naver News 2nd Algorithm Review Committee’ and announce the results of the expert review within this year.
Currently, Naver News service is operated by a ‘media editing board’ that is edited directly by the media and users subscribe to it, MY News based on artificial intelligence, clustering of News Home, and news search.
Naver plans to review the overall Naver news recommendation and search algorithm, including artificial intelligence-based ‘MY News Recommendation’, ‘Clustering’, and ‘News Search’.
Through this, the plan is to review the appropriateness of the algorithm applied to Naver News service from the formula to the data processing and modeling process, and to release a report containing the results within the year. The goal is to have the algorithm reviewed by external experts in a more transparent manner and to disclose the results.
This second algorithm review committee is composed of a total of 13 members from among the experts recommended by the ‘News Algorithm Review Committee Preparatory Committee’, which is comprised of major academic academics in four fields, including △artificial intelligence, △communication, △informatics, and △computer engineering. , Commissioner Ko Young-jung was elected as chairperson through a vote of the review committee members.
Yoo Bong-seok, general manager of Naver service operations, said, “Naver was the first domestic and foreign portal service provider to have the artificial intelligence algorithm applied to news reviewed by external experts in 2018, and this year we will hold the second Naver News Algorithm Review Committee and make it a regular event. “We will continue our efforts to increase service transparency.”
Chairman Ko Young-jung said, “Artificial intelligence is becoming a trend around the world by examining not only the technical aspects of the algorithm used for Naver News search, MY News article recommendation, and clustering of News Home, but also each step of artificial intelligence recommendation, including learning data. “We will do our best to increase the transparency of news recommendations.”
