Kakao Mobility announced on the 6th that it will launch the ‘KM Self-Driving Alliance Program’ with domestic and foreign self-driving companies to accelerate the commercialization of self-driving services.
In Korea, various companies have been working on the development of autonomous driving technology, but it has been difficult to implement it as a commercial service due to the nature of mobile services, which require a wide range of service elements such as customer contact points, call and dispatch systems, and operating policies. Kakao Mobility officially launched the ‘KM Autonomous Driving Alliance’ with the goal of accelerating the commercialization of autonomous driving technology and began building a cooperation system between companies. First, Kakao Mobility provides partners with a mobility platform infrastructure that allows them to quickly demonstrate technology. Based on the technology accumulated through Kakao T, the plan is to provide a platform where autonomous driving technology can be linked, such as △dispatching △route creation △advancement of estimated arrival time calculation technology.
Kakao Mobility is also actively exploring new service models based on autonomous driving. In particular, we plan to focus on evolving self-driving cars into space platforms rather than just using them as a simple means of transportation. For example, self-driving cars become moving department stores, making it possible to shop without going directly to the department store, or self-driving cars can be used as a space for watching movies, consulting with experts, and resting.
Jang Seong-wook, executive director of Kakao Mobility’s Future Business Department, said, “In order for autonomous driving to be implemented as a complete service that can reduce people’s unnecessary travel time and improve their lives, it is essential to create synergy through cooperation between different industries.” “Based on Kakao Mobility’s platform capabilities, we will play a pivotal role in enabling self-driving companies to try out various business models,” he expressed his ambition.
