Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center (Director Shin Hyun-sam, hereinafter referred to as ‘Gyeonggi Innovation Center’) and Team Grit Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Ki-ryeong) announced on the 15th that they will hold the ‘Mars Exploration Robot Competition HELLO MARS 2021’ on November 10.
This event is part of the ‘5G convergence service discovery and public initiative application project’ promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and exclusively managed by the Korea Intelligence and Information Society Agency, and is a 5G convergence service through verification of MEC (mobile edge computing)-based technology and services. Promote for revitalization.
When 5G, which has ultra-high speed and ultra-low latency characteristics, and MEC technology that processes data from communication networks at the service site are combined, robots and self-driving cars can be controlled in real time even at a distance from the actual site, and various convergence services specialized for industrial sites can be provided. It can be created. This is why 5G and MEC are in the spotlight as important technologies for digital transformation.
The ‘Mars Exploration Robot Competition HELLO MARS 2021’ will be held with the concept of controlling an exploration robot on Mars from Earth by maximizing these 5G and MEC technological features.
This competition uses the ‘5G millimeter wave (28GHz) test bed’, which was built for the first time in Korea by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups early this year with technical support from KT to support 5G testing of domestic startups, as the main competition venue, and KT’s 5G MEC Get technical support.
Contest participants will participate in the contest through the ‘media platform’ developed by Team Grit Co., Ltd. ‘Media Platform’ is a service that Team Grit Co., Ltd. is pursuing commercialization through the ‘5G convergence service discovery and public initiative application project’. It provides real-time high-definition video sharing and Internet of Things remote control by minimizing the delay in transmitting and receiving high-definition video of various Internet of Things. do.
The ‘Mars Exploration Robot Competition HELLO MARS 2021’ consists of ① a remote racing event in which a robot car in a 5G/MEC environment is controlled from a distance with a smartphone, and ② a robot that can be remotely controlled using a given module (equipped with cameras, communication, and SW). It is divided into startup device categories that produce and demonstrate operation.
As for the competition schedule, the finalists will be selected through screening between September and October. In the finals scheduled to be held on November 10, the grand prize (2 points from the Gyeonggi Province Governor Award) and the excellence award (2 points from the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center Director Award) will be awarded through on-site competition and evaluation. A total of 6 points are planned to be awarded, including the Encouragement Award (2 points for the Team Grit Consortium Award).
Those wishing to participate can apply through the Gyeonggi Innovation Center website or the official competition website from September 15th to 29th.
In particular, related educational lectures will be operated for participants to inform them of the industrial possibilities and utilization plans of the 5G/MEC environment, and technical support will also be provided to resolve any questions they may have during the participation process.
Shin Hyun-sam, head of the Gyeonggi Innovation Center, said, “In the 5G network environment, it is possible to provide a service that allows a large number of people to ‘simultaneously access’ an online media platform using various devices regardless of location or time.” He added, “We hope that this will lead to the activation of various commercial services.” “He said.
