[Pangyo Tech] Naver makes follow-up investment in AI tech startup ‘Flask’

Naver’s startup development organization ‘D2SF’ (D2 Startup Factory) announced on the 26th that it has made a follow-up investment in ‘Plask’, an AI-based content tech startup that made a seed investment last year.

Flask is a team discovered and incubated by Naver D2SF from the preliminary start-up stage. The investment that Flask attracted in this Pre-Series A amounted to 3 billion won, and Smilegate Investment was the lead investor.

Flask is developing a character content creation solution using pose extraction technology and deep learning technology. It is characterized by an ‘animation automation’ function that automatically produces character movements, greatly increasing the productivity of character content production, and is receiving a lot of response from potential customers. We have already conducted beta tests in various fields such as animation production, game development, entertainment, and the metaverse platform to verify usability, and we plan to introduce a formal solution within the year.

Flask CEO Lee Jun-ho said, “We plan to recruit key talent more aggressively using this Pre-Series A investment as a stepping stone,” and added, “We will innovate the global content industry based on excellent user experience and solid AI technology.”

Yang Sang-hwan, leader of Naver D2SF, said, “The reality is that most character content production relies on manual work, so it cannot keep up with the rapidly increasing demand for content due to the rise of the metaverse.” He added, “The value of the content authoring tool developed by Flask will gradually increase. “We also expect close technological synergy with Naver.”

Meanwhile, Naver D2SF has invested in 78 technology startups since its launch in 2015. In particular, we have recently been actively investing in technologies suitable for new content environments, such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). We are currently recruiting new investment teams through our website.
