The.Wave.Talk (CEO Kim Young-deok) announced on the 2nd that it signed a contract with Pixel Plus, a company specializing in image sensor design, to develop a sensor exclusively for water quality measurement.

The.Wave.Talk is a company with patented laser multi-scattering technology and has developed smart water quality measuring devices and in vitro diagnostic devices. The.Wave.Talk’s home smart water quality meter ‘WaterTalk Home’ is small but features accuracy comparable to professional equipment and a reasonable price.

Pixel Plus has focused on developing video-related products such as image sensors and image processing chips, and has accumulated semiconductor design technology. This collaboration with The.Wave.Talk developed a system semiconductor dedicated to water quality meters, providing an opportunity to expand the business area into the rapidly growing smart IoT market.

The core technology of Watertalk, a water quality measuring device, is to measure and analyze changes in laser scattered light caused by foreign substances with an image sensor as the laser passes through liquid containing foreign substances. This core technology for liquid analysis was researched by The.Wave.Talk together with Professor Yonggeun Park of KAIST.

The.Wave.Talk plans to expand its product line to a more diverse range by applying Pixel Plus’ image sensor technology. Specifically, we are collaborating with Pixel Plus to develop a 3-in-1 integrated semiconductor that integrates a high-sensitivity image sensor that converts laser scattered light passing through water into an electrical signal, a water quality processor with image processing technology that quantifies impurity concentration, and a memory. We plan to develop it and apply it to Water Talk.

Both companies have completed verification of the characteristics and operation of the water quality meter using the FPGA board, and are testing the performance of the prototype with a famous domestic customer. This prototype is expected to maintain the same performance as other industrial water quality meters and be 1/10th the size and 1/100th the price. Applicable fields can also become more diverse, including portable water quality meters, water purifiers, and water meters.

An official from The.Wave.Talk said, “In addition to easy and simple water quality measurement, we plan to collect water quality data across the country through a cloud network and analyze it with artificial intelligence to use it for smart home IoT sensor business and big data business,” adding, “Beyond water quality.” “We are also developing a bacteria detector that can check sanitary conditions, and once the prototype is developed, we will also create a competitive product in cooperation with Pixel Plus.”
