The Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center (Director Shin Hyun-sam, hereinafter referred to as the ‘Gyeonggi Innovation Center’) announced on the 12th that Singapore’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Tan See Leng recently visited the Pangyo Startup Zone located in the business support hub of Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.
The Pangyo Startup Zone is Korea’s largest startup support space, established by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to intensively nurture promising domestic startups and jointly operated by the Korea Startup Agency and the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center.
Minister Tan S Leung and officials from the Business Administration of Singapore visited various facilities, including the Startup Zone’s 3D production incubator, the global test bed that is leading the global startup ecosystem, and the Interpretation and Translation Support Center.
After touring the facility, a meeting was held with eight Singaporean companies that participated in the ‘K-Startup Grand Challenge’. It was a time to directly identify the difficulties faced by companies, listen to them, and find ways to provide support to overcome them.
The ‘K-Startup Grand Challenge’ is a start-up competition that started in 2016 and is now in its 6th year, hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA). The goal is to expand opportunities for global collaboration between domestic companies and overseas startups and strengthen competitiveness by attracting global startups with excellent items and technologies to the country and attracting high-quality overseas talent.
Shin Hyun-sam, head of the Gyeonggi Innovation Center, said, “The Startup Zone will continue to serve as a global startup hub that leads the startup ecosystem that attracts attention in the international community.”
Meanwhile, there are currently about 110 companies located in the startup zone. In addition to using the start-up zone facilities, the tenant companies are also operating customized intensive training programs such as AC-linked support projects, company diagnosis, and expert matching.
