[Pangyo Tech] Global expansion of digital ecosystem with ‘Arcbus’ with Naver and Softbank

Naver Labs (CEO Seok Sang-ok) announced on the 1st that it will expand ‘ARCVERSE’, a technology-based metaverse ecosystem that organically connects the real world and the digital world.

At a press conference held on this day, Naver Labs introduced the data, devices, solutions, and systems that make up ‘Arc Bus’ and revealed the blueprint for expanding the Arc Bus ecosystem globally, including cooperation with Softbank.

‘Arc Bus’ is a fusion of artificial intelligence (AI), robots, cloud, digital twin, 5G (5th generation mobile communication), autonomous driving, and augmented reality (AR) that Naver Labs has been researching, combining reality and digital space. It is a metaverse ecosystem that connects organically. Based on ‘digital twin’, the real world and the digital world are interconnected to provide an integrated experience.

Seok Sang-ok, CEO of Naver Labs, said, “Archverse is not an independent virtual space, but rather a digital world that is interconnected with the real world through technology, and can organically connect the two worlds to provide users with an equal experience without spatial gaps. “It’s the biggest feature,” he explained. It is different from existing 3D avatar virtual reality services such as ‘Zepetto’.

This means that the solutions and systems that make up Arc Bus are connected to various services and infrastructure in the real world, such as service robots, self-driving mobility, AR/virtual reality (VR), smart buildings, and smart cities. The main axis of connection is ‘ARC’, a multi-robot intelligence system that acts as the brain of buildings and robots based on Naver Cloud and 5G, and ‘ALIKE’, an independent indoor/outdoor digital twin data production solution.

CEO Seok Sang-ok said, “Because we had a huge test bed called Naver’s second headquarters, various technologies were able to quickly converge into one ecosystem called Archbus.” He added, “We will continue to advance our technologies through various partnerships with various local governments, companies, and academia.” “He emphasized.

In addition, Naver also announced that it is working with Softbank on a project to produce city-level high-precision maps (HD maps) using the ‘Alike’ solution in Japan. In this regard, Junichi Miyakawa, President and CEO of Softbank, said, “We expect that mapping-related projects in Japan using Naver Labs’ technology can become new business opportunities.”

In addition to technological advancement through long-term R&D, the company also indicated that it will discover more business opportunities in the long term with Naver Cloud. Sangyoung Han, Managing Director of Naver Cloud, emphasized, “To meet the increasing demand for digital transformation, we plan to provide Naver Labs’ core technologies, such as Alike and Arc, through Naver Cloud so that various partners can utilize them in the future.”

Lastly, CEO Seok emphasized that Naver Labs is a place that creates new connections through technology, saying, “The elements that make up Arc Bus can be individual services, or they can become completely new services through convergence.” “We expect that the Arc Bus to be built will be incorporated into each industry and lead to the creation of infrastructure and services that will lead to a paradigm shift.”
