Tomaru Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Yong-jun) will hold the ‘7 Agri & Food Tech Start-up Rising Expo 26’ held at COEX Hall A in Seoul for 28 days from July 3th (Wed) to 2023th (Fri). )’.

Tomaru, a food upcycling startup, is developing standardized products that anyone can make like someone with 30 years of experience in any place that handles bread, and is introducing a ‘Mukbang’ brand that solves the inconvenience of store owners. ‘Mukbang’ is an abbreviation for bread that is delicious even when it is cold, and is a brand designed to break the notion that bread must be hot to be delicious.

The representative product to be introduced at this exhibition is ‘Walnut Mukbang’, which is upcycled from domestic walnuts, and is a Korean-style ‘outside and inside’ dessert developed over a year and a half using patented pastry production technology with experts with over 30 years of experience. The official explains that the texture and taste of ‘crispy on the outside and moist on the inside’ are maintained even after refrigerated or frozen storage. Tumaru said, “It can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, such as frozen and eaten like ice cream, cooked in an air fryer, or dipped in whipped cream, so it has attracted attention as a personalized home bakery dessert and sold more than 1 million units.”

He continued, “Domestic walnuts boast excellent quality, but the high raw material price made it difficult for many people to enjoy them, and even when developed into a product, there were difficulties as the manufacturing cost was high and customers were not familiar with it.” He added, “So, Tomaru resolved the shortcomings of pastry sediment bread. He added, “We developed a patented walnut mukbang made with domestic walnuts, and introduced a ‘mukbang’ brand that tastes delicious even when cooled so that it tastes best when customers actually eat it.”

Tumaru has achieved over KRW 3 billion in cumulative sales with its ‘walnut bread’ made with more than 13 tons of domestic peeled walnuts, graduated with honors from the Local Creator & Youth Entrepreneurship Academy, won the Rural Development Administration Director’s Award, the Gyeongbuk Province Governor’s Award, and the Gyeonggi Province Governor’s Award, and was designated and manufactured as a special product. We are making steady progress, including registering a patent for the construction method. Overseas sales are being prepared through export support for domestic companies, and various forms are being developed to meet specifications.

An official said, “In order to diversify the types of mukbread, we increased the number of types from using only walnuts to more than 5 types by using various raw materials, and secured a sales channel that can be sold in stores nationwide by signing a contract with a distributor so that we can receive supplies in small quantities. “It is complete,” he said, adding about his future business plan, “We are also preparing pie products suitable for franchising, and we are planning to brand it in the future.”

Meanwhile, at AFRO 2023, the largest Agtech & Foodtech event in Korea, domestic startups with global growth potential in Agtech, Foodtech, and Green Bio will exhibit products and services to solve various problems in the agriculture and food industries, Various programs such as conferences discussing the present and future of Agtech and Foodtech and investment briefings (IR competitions) are held.
