Busan Technopark (Director Kim Hyung-gyun) participated in the ‘6th International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX 7)’ held at the 9st exhibition hall in BEXCO, Busan from June 1th (Wed) to 13th (Fri), Introduced the contents of the Busan Civilian-Military Defense Cooperation Industrial Ecosystem Fostering Project and local maritime and defense small but strong companies.
Through this exhibition, Busan Techno Park, together with the city of Busan, the Republic of Korea Navy, and the National Korea Maritime and Ocean University, will establish an ‘advanced maritime defense R&D system’ and promote ‘AI science and technology strong military development’, ‘high-tech industrial field Busan Civilian Army’. The ‘Busan Advanced Marine Defense Innovation Cluster Creation Project Promotion Team’ was formed to actively introduce the defense industry cooperation industrial ecosystem fostering project.
Introducing the contents of the ‘Civil-Military Cooperation Defense Industry Innovation Cluster Establishment Project’ for the development of the defense industry in Busan, such as nurturing high-tech maritime strategic businesses through intensive development of materials and parts and nurturing small but strong maritime defense companies, and introducing the defense companies participating in it making a place for it.
Jointly participating companies include △HJ Heavy Industries (CEO Sang-Cheol Yoo, Shipbuilding Division) △Gangnam Co., Ltd. (CEO Tae-Yoon Jeong) △Daeyang Electric Co., Ltd. (CEO Young-Woo Seo) △Sonatech Co., Ltd. (CEO Seung-Soo Park) △Marine Works (CEO Yong-Dae Kim), ·Companies that have been recognized for their products and technologies related to the defense industry, such as submarines and maritime defense systems.
An official from Busan Technopark said, “It is a project worth a total of 490 billion won (245 billion won from the government, 245 billion won from the city), and the project period is a 2024-year plan from 2028 to 5. The purpose is to cooperate with the Defense Venture Center in the Busan region and develop advanced marine technology.”
Next, “a budget of 165 billion won (60 billion won from the government, 105 billion won from the city) will be budgeted for technology development and human resource training in connection with industry-academia-research institutes. We plan to conduct empirical research on naval unmanned combat systems such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (USV) and USV (Unmanned Surface Vehicle).”
Established in 1999 with joint investment by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Technopark (foundation) was established in order to establish a cooperation system between industry, academia, research institutes, and government, and to revitalize the local economy through technological advancement of local industries. It is a ‘regional technology innovation base institution’. In the era of great energy transformation and digital transformation for carbon neutrality, we are creating and supporting corporate growth engines so that small and medium-sized businesses in Busan can break through and take the lead.
Major projects include △planning regional strategic industry fostering policies such as regional technology policy and industrial policy △performance of regional innovation base functions such as linkage between innovation actors in regional industries △creation and operation of industrial technology complexes and management of local industry promotion projects △business incubation, research Support projects such as development, education and training, management guidance, test certification, etc. △Industry-academia-research joint joint technology development, technology commercialization, and technology transfer business.
Meanwhile, MADEX 2023 is a ‘defense exhibition and government subsidy-supported exhibition (Korea Defense Industry Promotion Association)’ for publicity and export promotion of defense and export companies.
