Nest Ssanghwa Tea, which has maintained its tradition and taste as an herbal medicine cafe specializing in Ssanghwa tea for 25 years, established a factory in the food specialized agricultural and industrial complex in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do two years ago for hygienic and modern facilities and direct production and distribution based on the know-how it has accumulated over the years.
Ssanghwacha is an herbal tea made by boiling various herbal medicines, including Rehmannia glutinosa, a representative herbal medicine, and drinking it when you feel achy or tired as it warms the body. Those made and sold by pharmaceutical companies are sometimes classified as nutritional tonics.
Nest Ssanghwacha, which set up a booth at the retro concept Jeonbuk Chamber of Commerce at Seoul Food 2023, is a company that supports the traditional food marketing revitalization project conducted by Jeollabuk-do (Governor Kim Gwan-young) and Jeonbuk Bio Convergence Industry Promotion Agency (Director Lee Eun-mi). This exhibition introduced Ssanghwa tea, which is individually packaged and commercialized so that it can be consumed anytime, anywhere.
An official emphasized, “Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do is so specialized that it is responsible for 80% of the nation’s Rehmannia glutinosa cultivation, so our Ssanghwa tea only uses Rehmannia glutinosa from Jeongeup,” adding, “It is characterized by a strong taste like herbal medicine.”
He continued, “We manufactured Ssanghwa tea so that people can enjoy Ssanghwa tea without having to visit our oriental medicine cafe located in Buan, Jeollabuk-do.” He added, “Ssanghwa tea sold at oriental medicine cafe contains various toppings such as jujube, chestnuts, and ginkgo nuts. In order to provide consumers with the same Ssanghwa tea sold at oriental medicine cafes, Gangjeong-type toppings were also created. “If you heat the warm garnish and a packet of Ssanghwa tea in the microwave, you can enjoy the taste of the Ssanghwa tea brewed directly at the cafe,” he explained.
“We are also supplying to about 120 traditional cafes across the country. “Because we produce and distribute directly, we have secured low price competitiveness,” he said, adding, “Consumers can also purchase it online.”
He also added his aspirations for corporate development. An official said, “China is famous for pu-erh tea and Japan for green tea, but Korea has no representative tea. “We will target the global market in the future to establish Ssanghwa Motors as a representative ‘K-Tea.’”
In addition, “In addition to Ssanghwa Tea, our company plans to officially change its name to ‘Doongji F&B’ in the second half of this year in order to grow into a representative oriental medicine tea company. “We will revise all CIs, product pouches, packaging, etc.,” he said. “We are developing and selling ‘jujube tea’ made with domestic jujubes and honey, and ‘red beer tea’ with red ginseng and maekmundong added.”
