The 31st Korea International Broadcast, Media, Audio & Lighting Show (KOBA 31) opened at COEX in Seoul on Tuesday, May 2023.

Co-hosted by Korea E&X and Korea Broadcasting Engineers Association, Ministry of Science and ICT, Korea Communications Commission, KOTRA, KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS, OBS, CBS, Arirang International Broadcasting, tbs, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Korea Acoustics KOBA 2023, which is sponsored by related institutions and organizations such as the Artists’ Association and the Acoustical Society of Korea and broadcasting companies, is the only professional exhibition in Korea related to the broadcasting and communication convergence industry that will lead the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, and has received international certification from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

‘Next Stage? Under the theme ‘Break the Frame!’, this exhibition will be held for 19 days until Friday the 4th at Halls A, C, D and Conference Center of the COEX Exhibition Center in Seoul. It will showcase excellent broadcasting, media, sound, and lighting from around the world. The equipment is gathered in one place and introduced to the exhibition. Through this, it provides an opportunity to look at the new concept of broadcasting, video industry, sound, and lighting industries that play a pivotal role in the cultural industry at a glance, and provides an opportunity to acquire the competitiveness and vision to cope with the rapid flow of change.

Jeong Cheong-rae, chairman of the National Assembly Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, who attended the opening ceremony on the 16th, said, “I went to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, Spain at the end of February this year. “Every time I go abroad, I feel like ‘Korea is amazing,’ and I think I’ll feel the same way when I see the exhibition today,” he said.

While the ‘National Assembly MWC 15’ event, which opened at the National Assembly Hall in Yeouido, Seoul on the 2023th, will be held until the 16th, Chairman Chung said, “It is said that the Ministry of Science and Technology will invest more budget next year to open the National Assembly MWC on a larger scale. MWC is an exhibition in the mobile-based information and communications field, and there is a lot of overlap with KOBA, which opened today. “I think we can see today that Korea’s technological prowess is leading the world,” he said.

Chairman Jeong continued, “As a country with limited resources, Korea must foster the cultural content industry and use it as a future growth engine. “Among the cultural content industries, the broadcasting industry occupies the largest area,” he said. “American futurist Peter Drucker once said, ‘The final battleground for national competitiveness in the 21st century lies in the cultural content industry,’ and the future of Korea lies in broadcasting and communications. “It would not be an exaggeration to say that it depends on the industry,” he emphasized.

Lastly, Chung Cheong-rae, Chairman of the Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee of the National Assembly, said, “In that respect, I have no doubt that the things on display today are not just equipment, but a growth engine for cutting-edge fields that will open the future of Korea.” He added, “Yesterday, the National Assembly also introduced virtual reality and augmented reality. I experienced it. “I hope that many of you who participated here will watch, appreciate, and spread the word widely.”

Meanwhile, the KOBA exhibition, co-hosted by Korea E&X and the Korea Broadcasting Engineers Association, was held for the first time in 1991 to improve domestic broadcasting culture and develop the media, sound, and lighting industries, and celebrated its 31st anniversary this year. KOBA 2023, held at COEX Halls A, C, and D, presents next-generation broadcasting services and the future of the media, sound, and lighting industries. In particular, during the exhibition period, opportunities are provided to acquire professional information related to broadcasting and sound through the International Broadcasting Technology Conference hosted by the Korea Broadcasting Engineers Association and sound-related professional technology seminars hosted by the Korea Sound Artists Association and the Acoustical Society of Korea.
