Choi Seong-woo, director of the Korea Energy Agency, appeared as the first speaker at the ’13 Solar Power Market Insight (PVMI 2023)’ urban and building solar power policy and market trend session held at EXCO (CEO Lee Sang-gil) in Daegu on the 2023th.

On this day, Director Choi held the topic of ‘Plan to revitalize building-type solar power centered on zero energy buildings’: △Definition of Zero Energy Buildings (ZEB) △ZEB in the carbon neutral era △Application of ZEB by new and renewable energy source (focusing on certified buildings) △BIPV activation plan △ZEB introduced new and renewable energy technology implementation plans.

Director Choi Seong-woo started by explaining the legal definition of a zero-energy building. Director Choi said, “It is a green building that minimizes the energy load required for the building and minimizes energy consumption by utilizing new and renewable energy. Key technologies include passive, active, and new and renewable energy.” .

Examples of core technologies for zero-energy buildings that he introduced include △high-performance windows △green roof △external awning △waste heat recovery ventilation system △solar power △high-efficiency LED lighting △wall-integrated solar power system △high-efficiency boiler △fuel cell △external insulation △ Meat wheat, etc.

Meanwhile, Director Choi said, “The zero energy building market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 2022% from 2028 to 21.8.” He added, “We will meet the demand for indoor environment improvement due to COVID-19, overcome the energy supply crisis caused by the Russia-Ukraine war, and respond to the climate crisis.” “For this reason, the growth of the zero-energy building market is expected to gain momentum in the future.”

Director Choi then cited the following as obstacles to the spread of building-type solar power: fear of failure, lack of information, design limitations, REC weight issues, need to simplify testing and certification, and incompatibility with buildings. He said, “Establishing a BIPV recognition system, strengthening institutional support for initial market creation, supporting market creation through high value-added technological innovation, and expanding application from the design stage must be promoted.”
