LG Display will participate in ‘CES 1’, the world’s largest IT and home appliance exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA for a total of 5 days from January 8th (Thursday) to 4th (Sunday, local time) and display a 2023-inch Ultra optimized for gaming. Unveiling new wide OLED panels and 45-inch OLED panels.
The company explains that LG Display’s two new panel products provide a highly immersive gaming experience by combining excellent performance with the three-dimensional picture quality of OLED, where each pixel lights up on its own without a backlight.
The response speed required for these panels to display signals from the graphics card on the screen is 0.03ms (millisecond, 1000/1th of a second), boasting the fastest speed among existing panels. At the same time, the refresh rate, which is the number of times an image is displayed per second, is up to 1Hz, showing clear and smooth movement even in fast screen transitions.
In particular, a special polarizer for gaming was applied to minimize the ‘brightness’ phenomenon where surrounding objects are reflected on the screen in dark scenes. In addition, perfect black expression is possible, adding depth to the picture quality and accurately conveying the colors intended by the original work to the user.
Additionally, when applying the ‘Bendable’ function, which freely moves between flat and curved surfaces, the screen bends and unfolds, allowing you to set a curvature optimized for each game genre. The maximum curvature that can be set reaches 800R. Furthermore, the amount of blue light that is harmful to the eyes is only half that of a liquid crystal display (LCD), and it eliminates the flicker phenomenon that causes headaches, etc., so there is less fatigue even when used for long periods of time.
LG Display began mass producing OLED panels for gaming, one of its market-creating businesses, in December last year. It will be installed in premium gaming monitors from global IT device manufacturers and gaming gear brands such as LG Electronics, Asus, and Corsair.
Taejong Lee, in charge of LG Display Solution CX2, said, “We will provide a new customer experience based on OLED’s unique strengths such as fast response speed, perfect black, and bendable function,” and added, “The goal is to dominate the high-end gaming display market.” said.
