Energy IT social venture SixtyHertz (CEO Kim Jong-gyu)’s energy management system ‘Energy Scrum’ received the Innovation Award in the fields of sustainability, eco-design and smart energy at ‘CES 2023’, the world’s largest IT exhibition.

EnergyScrum is a system that comprehensively manages various distributed power sources such as solar power, electric vehicle chargers, and energy storage systems (ESS). It provides a variety of management functions, including the ability to predict energy demand and supply with AI technology. For example, it predicts the amount of power generation from solar power plants installed at gas stations and the demand for electric vehicle charging to help manage supply and demand.

Last year, SixtyHertz used public data to display the ‘Sunshine Wind Map’, which displays about 8 renewable energy power plants on a map and allows them to check their power generation, for free to citizens. Based on this, we are making various achievements, such as receiving the grand prize at the 9th Government-wide Public Data Startup Competition (President’s Award) and the 13th Social Venture Competition (Prime Minister’s Award) in the same year.

Kim Jong-gyu, CEO of SixtyHertz, said, “As eco-friendly distributed power is rapidly expanding around the world, the demand for systems that can manage it in an integrated manner is continuously increasing.” He added, “Starting with this award, Korean software technology can be utilized in overseas markets as well.” “I will continue to challenge myself,” he said.

Meanwhile, SixtyHertz is a social venture that develops a virtual power plant (VPP) using IT technologies such as artificial intelligence, IoT, and 5G, dreaming of a world centered on clean energy. 60 Hertz refers to the frequency that our power grid maintains when the demand and supply of power are balanced.
