Babcock participated in the ‘6th International Maritime and Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX 7)’ held at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 9 in Busan from Wednesday, June 1th to Friday, June 13th.
This exhibition mainly introduced the autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle integrated system. Officials explain that this is an extra-large AUV handling system for submarines and has the potential to become a major element of power reinforcement in maritime operations.
Babcock is currently developing Remora, an autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle payload system capable of carrying submarines weighing more than 30 tons, and this module can be installed on existing assets without affecting the performance of the carrier.
When equipped with Remora, it is expected to increase covert approach distance and increase the capabilities of current and future submarine forces, and was introduced as a low-observable solution suitable for both existing platforms and new submarines. There is an autonomous unmanned submarine storage battery that is charged directly from the mother ship, and it has the advantage of minimal noise during docking operation and direct data transmission when docking.
In addition, it can be deployed and recovered without the need to stop during carrier maneuvers, and does not affect the performance of existing submarines, such as the weight of launch tubes and equipment.

Meanwhile, MADEX 2023 is a ‘defense exhibition and government subsidy-supported exhibition (Korea Defense Industry Promotion Association)’ for publicity and export promotion of defense and export companies.
