UNID Btplus (CEO Han Sang-jun) announced its participation in ‘H2 MEET 2024,’ which will take place over three days from September 25th (Wednesday) to 27th (Friday) at KINTEX in Goyang City.
Established in November 2022 following a corporate spin-off from UNID’s board business division, UNID Btplus manufactures and sells medium-density fiberboard (MDF) products used in furniture and interior design and Algodam flooring, which forms the base of living spaces. Additionally, the company has commercialized a hydrogen gas detection product, which was developed in early 2023 before the spin-off from UNID.
At the exhibition, the company will mainly showcase its hydrogen gas detection product, ‘HyFinder.’ Developed in the form of tape, patches, and paste, the product is designed for easy use by hydrogen gas handlers. It can be applied easily to suspected leakage areas using adhesive tape or patches or by applying the paste. The product reacts directly with hydrogen gas, changing color, thus allowing anyone to check for leaks visually.
A representative from UNID Btplus explained, “Hydrogen, being of small molecular weight, can easily seep through tiny gaps and may ignite from low energies such as static electricity from humans, posing risks of explosions or fires. Therefore, in places where hydrogen is used, people often apply soapy water or install electronic sensors on hydrogen tanks or pipe joints to check for leaks. However, these methods can be cumbersome, dangerous, and unreliable, so the risk of accidents remains. Our product, a tape that changes color upon reacting with leaking hydrogen, is being recognized as an alternative for easily detecting leaks.”
The silicone-based tape, which is elastic by nature, can be conveniently installed and applied indoors and outdoors, allowing for immediate detection of hydrogen leaks. Moreover, the company emphasized that when used complementarily with existing electronic sensors that detect hydrogen concentration in the air, it can more perfectly prevent leakage accidents.
Recently, UNID Btplus has been actively working on developing a hydrogen safety management solution using its self-developed hydrogen leak detection tape in collaboration with a hydrogen safety management system developer based in Beijing, China. This collaboration serves as a bridgehead for expanding its hydrogen safety management business.
The representative stated, “Our self-developed product has been externally recognized for its excellent hydrogen detection capabilities and operational convenience. Especially given that the product’s target country, China, is the world’s largest hydrogen producer and is accelerating the production of green hydrogen with no carbon emissions, the future business prospects are very promising. The collaborating company is preparing a hydrogen safety management system business in Shenyang, Liaoning province. UNID Btplus, which offers the ‘HyFinder’ line of hydrogen detection products, including tapes, patches, and paste, focuses on product development and production while planning to intensively target the Chinese market through its affiliate, USH (UNID Shanghai Enterprise Management).”
H2 MEET is a specialized hydrogen industry exhibition for domestic and international companies and institutions involved in hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization. This year’s exhibition aims to be a professional event that will enhance participation from global hydrogen industry companies, generate tangible results, and contribute to the understanding of South Korea’s hydrogen economy ecosystem. Starting this year, it will be held in conjunction with H2WORLD, and concurrently, the K-BATTERY SHOW 2024 and the Heating, Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Fluid Exhibition Korea (HARFKO 2024) will also take place at KINTEX Exhibition Center 1.
