APGREEN Inc. has announced its participation in the ‘H2 MEET 2024’, which will occur at KINTEX in Goyang City from September 25th (Wednesday) to 27th (Friday).
APGREEN is a startup developing clean hydrogen production technology based on low-temperature plasma. The company is working on a modular system that utilizes low-temperature plasma and carbon to produce clean hydrogen from hydrocarbons. The process uses low-temperature plasma as a catalyst, enhancing energy and reforming efficiency. Additionally, producing solid carbon compounds through carbon capture enables a low-carbon footprint while maintaining economic viability.
APGREEN explains, “Instead of using the traditional steam reforming method, which dominates the hydrogen production market, our turquoise hydrogen production method involves directly decomposing methane in a reactor. Most companies attempting turquoise hydrogen production use high-temperature plasma for methane pyrolysis. In contrast, our unique technology directly reforms methane using low-temperature plasma.”
APGREEN has completed the construction of bench-scale parts for devices that directly decompose methane using low-temperature plasma and partial oxidation reactors. The company has completed three Korean registrations, four Korean applications, and one U.S. application related to this technology.
APGREEN will introduce an onsite modular clean hydrogen production unit that utilizes low-temperature plasma technology at the exhibition. The device directly decomposes and partially oxidizes methane in a low-temperature plasma reactor to produce synthesis gas (H2, CO) and high-value solid carbon compounds.
APGREEN is accelerating its expansion into the American market, the world’s largest hydrogen production market, expected to reach $36 billion by 2030 with an annual growth rate of 8.7%. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has committed to supporting $7 billion in funding for seven hydrogen hubs, indicating active investment in hydrogen production. Following the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) announcement in June 2023, which includes a clean hydrogen production tax credit plan, active investments are expected in clean hydrogen production facilities. APGREEN is targeting the market for medium-scale and smaller onsite hydrogen production units.
H2 MEET is a specialized hydrogen industry exhibition for domestic and international companies and institutions involved in hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization. This year’s exhibition aims to be a professional event that will enhance participation from global hydrogen industry companies, generate tangible results, and contribute to the understanding of South Korea’s hydrogen economy ecosystem. Starting this year, it will be held in conjunction with H2WORLD, and concurrently, the K-BATTERY SHOW 2024 and the Heating, Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Fluid Exhibition Korea (HARFKO 2024) will also take place at KINTEX Exhibition Center 1.
