The city of Seoul will operate the largest ever ‘Seoul Pavilion’ at CES 2024, the world’s largest home appliance and IT exhibition, for four days from Tuesday, January 9th to Friday, January 12th.
After participating in CES for the first time with 20 companies in 2020, the city of Seoul has been operating the ‘Seoul Pavilion’ to attract investment and support sales for innovative companies in Seoul. As not only the size of participating companies but also the number of companies receiving innovation awards for innovative technologies and products is increasing, the city of Seoul announced that it plans to expand the public-private startup ecosystem led by the city to help innovative startups be recognized by investors.
The 13 partner institutions participating this year include the Seoul Economic Promotion Agency, Seoul Bio Hub, Seoul AI Hub, Gwanak-gu, Korea University, Yonsei University, Sogang University, Hanyang University, Chung-Ang University, Konkuk University, Kookmin University, and Kyung Hee University.
At this CES 2024 ‘Seoul Pavilion’, the innovative technologies and technologies of 81 Seoul-based startup companies will be displayed in cooperation with 13 organizations, including Seoul Bio Hub and Seoul AI Hub, at Eureka Park (Tech West), a 670㎡ national and startup exhibition hall. In particular, 18 of the 81 companies participating in this Seoul exhibition received the CES 2024 Innovation Award. Two companies, Top Table (personalized nutrition production) and Road System (mobile passport), received the Best Innovation Award, which only 1% of participating companies receive.
Established in 1976, the CES Innovation Award is an award given by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) to innovative products and new technologies with technology, aesthetics, and innovation. It is highly credible as it is evaluated by current global companies and industry experts. This year’s CES selected 36 Best Innovation Awards and 522 Innovation Awards in 29 fields.
At 11 a.m. (local time) on the 9th (Thursday), Mayor Oh visited the opening ceremony of the ‘Seoul Pavilion’ with about 100 people, including CTA Chairman Gary Shapiro and representatives of companies participating in the Seoul Pavilion, and visited the booths of companies participating in the ‘Seoul Pavilion’. They traveled around the world to directly experience the innovative technologies and products on display and promised to provide all-round support to help innovative startups’ technologies and services advance into overseas markets.
At the opening ceremony, which started with a video of Seoul citizens supporting Seoul startups, the ‘Seoul Startup Innovation Tree Lighting Ceremony’ was also held, symbolizing the growth of startup seeds sown in Seoul into global companies.
This year’s ‘Seoul Pavilion’ displays innovative technologies and products from a total of 81 companies in the fields of healthcare (31), AI (25), manufacturing (11), mobility (7), ESG (4), and quantum (3). We also operate pitching and networking programs targeting global investors and buyers.
At a luncheon meeting with representatives of innovation award-winning companies, Mayor Oh encouraged companies that achieved good results with innovative technologies and products even in the harsh climate of global investment, and listened to voices from the field about regulations and difficulties encountered in the process of global expansion and commercialization. . In particular, they responded that they would expand support at the Seoul Metropolitan Government level to eliminate regulatory barriers that discourage entrepreneurship in new industries and new technology start-ups, and that the Seoul Metropolitan Government would act as a delivery platform and actively make suggestions on areas that need to be resolved by the central government.
