UBATT Co., Ltd. (CEO Chang-gyu Lee) announced that it will participate in CES 2024, which will be held in Las Vegas, USA from Tuesday, January 9 to January 12 (Friday, local time) next year.
UBATT is a battery specialist company established in 2016 and has the capability to carry out the entire cycle from material development to battery manufacturing and evaluation. ‘B(Battery), E(Electrode)’ are designed and developed starting with electrodes according to the battery specifications required by customers, and encompass a safe storage and use environment and a platform for reliability testing. ), S(Safety), and T(Test)’ solutions.
At this CES 2024, UBATT plans to introduce a high energy density lithium metal battery (LMB). UBATT’s unique Tunable Electrode Platform (TEP) technology is known as a material/process technology that can dramatically improve performance by controlling the electrode structure with a very small amount of additives using the same electrode material. Officials explain that the key to realizing high energy density (550+ Wh/kg), differentiated from existing lithium metal batteries (~400 Wh/kg), is the key to achieving uniform thickening of the electrodes. UBATT expects that TEP technology and its applied lithium metal batteries will be a solution that adds technological superiority, especially in the air mobility field.
A UBATT official said, “Our company has jointly developed solid-state batteries with global battery companies, and has recently succeeded in supplying self-developed lithium metal batteries. We are a company with significant technological capabilities in the field of next-generation batteries. Unfortunately, the market’s attention is focused on companies from major countries that have attracted large-scale investments, so we have not had many opportunities to promote our technology to the world,” he said. “Through this exhibition, we will make it known that there is a next-generation battery company in Korea with super-gap technology. “I hope it will be an opportunity to meet good partners and investors,” he said, explaining his participation in the exhibition.
Additionally, in addition to LMB, which will be introduced at CES 2024, UBATT is collaborating with various global companies on high-output lithium ion battery (LIB) and TEP technologies. Since developing the LMB prototype in the first half of 2023, we have achieved the success of supplying it to multiple domestic companies. Currently, we are in the process of developing a customized LMB optimized for unmanned aerial vehicle performance through collaboration with an aviation company. We are collaborating with overseas companies under a plan to verify (Proof of Concept, PoC) and cross-apply the technologies between the two companies, and we expect that it will be possible to achieve export performance through collaborative companies in the near future. UBATT is also planning to relocate to a new headquarters and expand facilities to meet rapidly increasing demand.
An official said, “Our TEP technology has the advantage of being able to freely control performance to maximize output characteristics at equal energy density or maximize energy density at equal output. If the LMB presented at this exhibition is a product that maximizes energy density, the product currently under development is a high-output LIB that maximizes output characteristics and is being prepared for commercialization at the request of many customers,” he said. “We are working to ensure that our batteries can be applied to aircraft with various characteristics.” “We plan to expand our product lineup by collaborating with aviation companies,” he said.
Meanwhile, ‘CES’, the world’s largest IT exhibition hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), is an exhibition where you can see the flow of innovative technologies around the world at a glance and is held every January in Las Vegas, USA. AVING News, which has covered CES for 18 consecutive years, has reported CES news around the world every year since 2006, and has been selected through ‘BEST OF CES’ and ‘BEST OF MADE IN KOREA’, which select the best innovative products, companies and technologies. has been in progress. In addition, CES on-site issues are vividly conveyed through ‘AVING LIVE’.
The CES 2024 Seoul Unified Hall will be operated at the largest scale in terms of exhibition area, number of participating companies, and number of participating supporters since Seoul City’s first participation in CES in 2020. The Seoul Integration Center, in which 13 organizations collaborate and participate, is an important step in Seoul’s efforts to make Seoul a mecca for startups, and 17 of the companies participating in the Seoul Integration Center proved this by receiving innovation awards. The participating institutions in the Seoul Unification Center are ▲SBA ▲Seoul Bio Hub ▲Campus Town ▲AI Yangjae Hub ▲Gwanak-gu ▲Yonsei University ▲Korea University ▲Chung-Ang University ▲Sogang University ▲Kookmin University ▲Hanyang University ▲Konkuk University ▲Kyunghee University. Not only the Seoul Metropolitan Government, institutions, and companies, but also supporters through industry-academia cooperation are matched 1:1 with companies, and 85 supporters, the largest number, will participate.
