Krafton (CEO Kim Chang-han) invested $5.4 million (approximately KRW 6.5 billion) in Nautilus Mobile, an Indian sports game developer.
Nautilus Mobile, established in 2013, is an Indian sports game developer that develops and publishes the cricket game franchise. The representative game ‘Real Cricket™’ has recorded over 100 million cumulative downloads worldwide and is leading the cricket game genre around the world, securing over 10 million monthly active users (MAU). In 2020, JetSynthesys, an Indian digital entertainment technology company, acquired 100% of Nautilus Mobile and announced plans for its cricket esports business.
This investment is Krafton’s first investment in an India-based game developer. Krafton has continued to make investments that can contribute to the development of the overall Indian digital ecosystem, and, like its investment in Nautilus Mobile, it also plans to expand its direct investments in the gaming market in earnest.
Rajan Navani, Chairman of Nautilus Mobile, said, “With the development of the Indian mobile game market further accelerating due to the pandemic, we are pleased to be able to quickly prepare for the future of Nautilus Mobile through this investment. “Our goal is to further strengthen our growth trajectory by expanding Nautilus Mobile’s game portfolio through collaboration with Krafton, which has played a key role in the global mobile game industry.”
“Nautilus Mobile is a proven game company that has successfully built a cricket game and secured a highly engaged community based on that,” said Son Hyun-il, CEO of Krafton’s Indian subsidiary. “Both companies will provide a differentiated sports game experience for Indian users.” “We will do our best to achieve our common goal of providing services,” he said.
Krafton is focusing on exploring and investing in various business opportunities with the goal of expanding into emerging markets, including India. We are continuing to make bold investments in companies showing high growth potential, and in 2021 alone, we will be investing in e-sports company NODWIN Gaming, game streaming platform Loco, web novel platform Pratilipi, and India Early Stage Fund Three. One Four (3one4) and social platform FRND (Friend) invested about $80 million (approximately KRW 94.9 billion) in Indian IT companies.
