There is a startup that is challenging the existing commerce system that ranks based on online sales volume or popularity. Startup Mentain (CEO Kang Tae-gi) said, “We will rewrite the ranking of digital and home appliances through AI review analysis.”

Mentein is a startup founded by former search developers at Naver, Kakao, and 11th Street. The existing service ‘Easy Shopping Research Institute’ focused on AI search recommendation technology. Easy Shopping Lab, which was officially launched in September 2020, attracted the attention of users, exceeding 10,000 users in less than six months after launch.

Recently, ‘Easy Shopping Research Institute’ was renovated under the service name ‘Keeping’ and said, ‘Our goal is to become the first step in exploring digital and home appliances before purchasing from 2022,’ and the first step is to analyze reviews based on AI technology. We introduced our own scores, rankings, and review analysis.

Using its own AI technology, Keeping extracts common opinions and attributes from reviews, determines the quality and reliability of the reviews through review analysis as well as the pros and cons and features of the product recognized by reviewers, and displays the product’s score through its own evaluation system.

Mentain CEO Kang Tae-gi said, “In the case of digital and home appliances, the purchase cycle is long and expertise is required, so a lot of time and energy is needed to research before purchasing. Users who find this process burdensome are considering purchases based on ratings, popularity, and recommended products. However, there are many cases where users end up regretting the purchase of a product that does not suit their individual situation.”

He continued, “I want to present a new paradigm in the existing commerce market that focuses on products that help sales rather than customer needs. “Instead of star ratings, which have different standards for each user and are easy to manipulate, we plan to extract ratings based on analyzed reviews to show consistent product evaluations,” he said.

Mentein renewed its service on May 9 and released its keeping score and keeping ranking. Starting with this, Mentain, which plans to open a variety of services such as review analysis, spec analysis, and comparison, said its goal is to establish itself as a “reconciliation in the digital and home appliance industries.”

Meanwhile, Mentein is currently a company located in the Pangyo Startup Zone established by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and operated by the Startup Promotion Agency and the Gyeonggi Creation and Innovation Center. Upon its launch in 2020, it will receive seed investment from Future Play and TIPS, a private investment-led technology startup support program. (TIPS) was selected.
