Naver and Vietnam’s Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) announced on the 25th that they successfully completed Vietnam’s first artificial intelligence (AI) hackathon, ‘BK.AI-NAVER Challenge 2022’.

At its debut (developer conference) in 2019, Naver declared the establishment of a ‘global AI research belt’ centered on Korea, Japan, France, and Southeast Asia. In 2020, we welcomed HUST as our first partner in Southeast Asia, and opened a joint AI center last year.

A total of 80 teams and 300 college students from all over Vietnam participated in this hackathon, which was held for two days starting on the 21st. The contest areas for this hackathon were divided into three areas: natural language understanding, gesture recognition, and OCR. Of the 80 teams, 15 advanced to the finals, and 3 teams from each category won and received a prize of 1,000 dollars (about 1.26 million won).

Park Dong-jin, Naver Vietnam leader, said, “We will cooperate more actively with HUST in local research and development and talent training in Vietnam.”

Meanwhile, Naver and HUST are continuing their active cooperation by successfully carrying out five research projects in about a year after signing an industry-academia cooperation, releasing four types of datasets, and presenting ten papers at the highest level of global academic conferences. . In addition, Naver Vietnam also opened a global development center in Ho Chi Minh City and plans to hire about 300 excellent developers in Vietnam by 2023.
