Naver Webtoon announced that it will officially serialize the new webtoon ‘Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo’ as a weekly Thursday webtoon after releasing the first episode at 10 pm on the 27th.
The webtoon ‘Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo’ (Yuil/Hwa Eum-jo) depicts the growth story of a new lawyer with a genius brain and autism spectrum disorder, ‘Woo Young-woo’, at a large law firm. It is based on the drama of the same name starring Park Eun-bin and Kang Tae-oh, which is breaking its own highest viewer ratings every episode, and the original drama story was adapted with the webtoon’s unique fast-paced development and directing.
The webtoon ‘Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo’, which has a total of 60 episodes, not only features the story of the original drama, but also presents additional episodes that were not seen in the drama. In particular, after the start of serialization in Korea, it is planned to be translated into English, Japanese, Chinese, etc. through Naver Webtoon’s global service and to be serialized overseas.
The drama ‘Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo’ is a human court drama in which a new lawyer with autism spectrum disorder, Woo Young-woo, grows up as he solves cases. It is gaining popularity around the world, with a peak viewership rating exceeding 13% and ranking first globally as the most-watched content in Netflix’s non-English TV category for two consecutive weeks.
Meanwhile, Naver Webtoon is expanding its content intellectual property (IP) business with new attempts linking webtoons and dramas. Previously, dramas such as JTBC’s ‘Senior, Don’t Put on That Lipstick’, SBS’s ‘Hong Cheon-ki’, and KBS’s ‘Good Doctor’ were presented as webtoons, and in November of last year, a prequel webtoon for the SBS Monday-Tuesday drama ‘That Year We Were’ was simultaneously produced. It was also made public.
