Webtoon writer Jo Seok’s ‘Moonyu’ is being reborn in 4DX for the first time as a webtoon. This is the first time that a webtoon intellectual property (IP) has been produced in 4DX beyond movies, dramas, and animations.
Naver Webtoon announced that ‘4DX Munyu’, the original work of SF webtoon ‘Moonyu’ by author Jo Seok, has confirmed its first screening in theaters on the 12th of next month. ‘4DX Munyu’ is a ‘4DX Webtoon’ that was transferred to the screen by combining various effects of 4DX through a collaboration between Naver Webtoon and CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of CJ CGV.
The webtoon ‘Moonyu’ is a science fiction comedy depicting the struggles of an astronaut left alone on the moon after humanity on Earth was wiped out by an asteroid collision. It is a work by writer Jo Seok, famous for ‘Sound of the Heart’ and ‘Joe’s Realm’, and was serialized on Naver Webtoon from June 2016 to September 2017 with a total of 68 episodes. It was evaluated as showing the essence of black comedy by combining writer Cho Seok’s unique cynical humor and unique drawing with the ‘post-apocalyptic’ worldview of the end of the world.
The original webtoon ‘4DX Munyu’ transferred the webtoon’s speech bubbles and frames to the screen while adding motion graphics and movement using the camera to create a dynamic video. The 4DX motion chair and effects that stimulate the five senses are expected to provide visitors with a special experience as if they have entered outer space in a webtoon.
Naver Webtoon’s Global IP Business Manager Noh Seung-yeon said, “Moonyu is an original SF webtoon set on the moon and has received love calls from many domestic and foreign production companies as it is an IP that allows for experimental attempts.” “We expect that the genre ‘4DX Webtoon’ will be an opportunity for more people, including fans of the original work, to experience webtoons in a new way.”
CJ 4DPLEX’s General Producer Hyun-jeong Yoon, who was in charge of adapting, producing, and planning with 4DX, said, “We made it possible to assimilate into the character ‘Moon Yu’ and share emotions with the main character, making a webtoon a content that can be fully felt through 4DX.” He said.
Previously, the original webtoon ‘MOONYOU – Solo Moon Ball’, which was released in China last July, earned approximately 580.3 billion won and attracted 70.67 million visitors, and is likely to rank second in China’s box office box office in 2022. . On the 10th, the webtoon-based animation ‘Wen Yu’ was released for the first time on major OTTs such as iQiyi and Bilibili.
Meanwhile, the original webtoon ‘Moonyu’ can be enjoyed through Naver Webtoon, Naver Series PC homepage, mobile web, and app. ‘4DX Munyu’ can be seen at 39 CGVs nationwide, including CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall and Yeouido, and its running time is 50 minutes.
