Alchera, an image recognition AI company, has signed a partnership with PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric Company), the largest power company in the western United States, to provide an artificial intelligence forest fire detection solution.
Through this partnership, Alchera will apply its artificial intelligence forest fire detection solution ‘FireScout’ to one-third (1/3) of all high-definition fire surveillance cameras operated by PG&E throughout California. Alchera aims to apply the ‘Fire Scout’ solution to all cameras operated by PG&E through future partnership development.
‘Fire Scout’ is a SaaS-based solution that connects AI and a video camera that illuminates the mountain to detect abnormal situations such as smoke early. The judgment accuracy is 99%, and it can detect both day and night and accurately identifies obstacles such as clouds and city lights. We even have technology that can estimate the location of a forest fire by measuring the direction and angle of the smoke.
Jim, an official at PG&E’s HWAC (Hazard Awareness and Warning Center), said, “Artificial intelligence has enabled us to more efficiently manage wildfires and fires that can threaten the company’s electric and gas assets.” “At the project stage, ‘Fire Scout’ has detected several fires ahead of the information source it is building,” he explained.
PG&E has been responsible for the causes of forest fires and compensation for damages caused by transmission tower wires in the past, so it is strengthening voluntary monitoring. As Alchera has signed a partnership with the largest electric power company in the United States, it plans to secure a variety of customers who need artificial intelligence forest fire detection solutions based on this contract.
Young-gyu Hwang, CEO of Alchera, said, “We are pleased to be able to protect California, which suffers great damage from wildfires every year, with Alchera’s technology, and we will further actively expand Fire Scout’s technology by demonstrating excellent performance based on the contract.” He said.
