Samyang Corporation, a food and chemical affiliate of Samyang Group, held the ‘2022 Water Treatment Industry Technology Seminar’ at the Four Points by Sheraton Seoul Guro Hotel, along with LG Chem and Ecobit Engineering, by inviting about 200 executives and employees of water treatment-related customers and partners.

This seminar was designed to explain the overall water treatment business, for which demand is continuously increasing due to the development of high-tech industries such as semiconductors, displays, secondary batteries, and hydrogen fuel cells, and to share the latest technology trends and related products. In addition, key companies in the water treatment industry gathered together to understand the characteristics of each other’s water treatment materials, thereby seeking to create synergy among water treatment operators.

Samyang Corporation began by introducing Samyang Corporation’s ion exchange resin brand, ‘TRILITE’. Next, the basic concept and features of ion exchange resin were explained, and the latest trends in water treatment technology were announced. In particular, he attracted the attention of the audience by presenting the characteristics and application cases of ultrapure water for semiconductors and pure resin for nuclear power plants, which are rapidly growing in the global market.

Samyang Corporation is targeting overseas markets with the same brand name as the domestic one, ‘Trilight’, leveraging its track record of supplying to the domestic nuclear power plant, semiconductor, and display industries that lead the global market. The global ion exchange resin market is worth about 2 trillion won and is growing at an average annual rate of about 4-5% led by ultrapure water and water treatment for power plants.

In addition, Samyang Company explained and demonstrated the water treatment design program ‘Triangle’, which it developed in-house to improve the convenience of use for customers. Triangle is a software program developed to optimize Samyang’s ion exchange resin products and measures the amount of ion exchange resin needed depending on the amount of raw water.

Lastly, Samyang Corporation introduced the ion exchange resin recycling business, which was launched for the first time in Korea in April of this year, and also proposed sustainable growth through eco-friendliness. Samyang Corporation supplies ion exchange resins to semiconductor and display production companies for recycling of ion exchange resins. After using them a certain number of times, Samyang Company recovers ion exchange resins that have reached the end of their lifespan, removes foreign substances (ions), regenerates them, and supplies them again as ion exchange resins. . Samyang Corporation is the first and only domestic ion exchange resin recycling business. Samyang’s goal is to provide a total aqua solution encompassing ion exchange resin production, supply, collection, and recycling.

Samyang Corporation SC PU Chief Executive Director Cho Young-do said, “It was a meaningful event to look back on the current state of the domestic water treatment industry and share the technology and network capabilities that the three companies, Samyang Corporation, LG Chem, and Ecobit Engineering, have built up so far.” He added, “For semiconductors and power plants. “We will lead the development of the domestic water treatment market by increasing the sales proportion of premium ion exchange resins and expanding domestic and overseas sales channels.”

Meanwhile, Samyang Corporation has been leading the domestic ion exchange resin industry with the brand ‘Trilight’ since it succeeded in domestically producing ion exchange resin at its Ulsan plant in 1976. In 2014, Samyang Fine Technology was established to produce next-generation ion exchange resin. Samyang Fine Technology’s Gunsan plant, with an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons, is the largest in Asia. In addition, in 2020, we supplied ion exchange resins used in water treatment facilities in nuclear power plants, opening the way for the domestic production of premium ion exchange resins. Following last year’s supply of ion exchange resin for hydrogen car filters, this year we supplied homogeneous ion exchange resin to ultrapure water manufacturing facilities used in semiconductor and display production, contributing to the domestic production of materials, parts, and equipment.
